A VIP experience greeted Stratstone Club members in the heart of motorsport history, as the Championship Challenge Hill Climb came to the iconic Shelsley Walsh..

Deep in the glorious Worcestershire countryside, Shelsley Walsh plays host to the Speed Hill Climb, run by the Midland Automobile Club (MAC). Celebrating its 110th year, the Hill Climb is the oldest motorsport event in the world to have been staged continuously on its original course since 1905, the track rises 328 feet during its length at a steep gradient, presenting drivers with a challenging course.

Stratstone have held a number of exclusive customer experiences at Shelsley Walsh throughout 2015, buy August heralds the biggest event of the season. The Stratstone enclosure played host to a luxury hospitality tipi complete with rustic wooden tables and twinkling fairy lights, serving freshly baked breakfast pastries and coffees on arrival through to an irresistible BBQ lunch.

Complimentary hot drinks, plus a variety of chilled alcoholic and soft drinks were available at the bar and for a sweet summertime treat, a traditional ice cream van was on hand for dessert. Guests enjoyed access to an exclusive grandstand viewing platform, allowing fantastic views of the track as the cars sped by on their way up the hill.

A range of Stratstone vehicles were on display in the rectory, and one lucky guest even got the chance to take the sublime Jaguar F-Type R up the hill climb during the lunchtime break. The event was extremely well received by all our guests:

"Everything you could wish for a great day out, which shows the superb organisation behind the scenes. Very pleasant venue in beautiful countryside. Good view of the track from the stands. The Stratstone cars were immaculate… Top marks."

"Honestly the event was absolutely superb. Having attended a number of events this year like Goodwood FOS and so forth, the Stratstone Shelsley Walsh Experience was by far the best and I would greatly welcome the opportunity to attend a future event. The venue, the Stratstone vehicles on display and the team were superb!"

On the track, there was a win apiece for Alex Summers and Scott Moran, both in the Gould GR61X, but it was championship leader Alex who took the best time of day with 23.05 seconds. All those attending the Stratstone Experience also got to cheer on our very own race entry thanks to Matt Nicholl Jones and the Aston Martin Racing Team who took to the hill in their Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for Stratstone.

The Aston Martin GT4 is currently the most popular GT4 car in the world, with over 100 examples competing in events around the globe. Based on the acclaimed Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the GT4 features upgraded springs and dampers.

A number of weight-reducing measures have been employed throughout the car, making use of materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre, creating a vehicle honed purely for the track. So far the GT4 has been extremely successful, with 27 wins and 68 podiums racked up in just two years of racing. It was certainly a treat to see the GT4 take to the hill!

Stay tuned for more from Matt on his Hill Climb experience.
