The new Smart ForTwo is a revolution in city cars. If you're still not convinced, then here's 12 reasons why the new, well-equipped, stylish Smart Car is worth getting excited about.
1. It's exempt from road tax
That's right. The new Smart ForTwo comes with two available engines which both offer under 99g/km, meaning they are completely free from road tax. In fact, the 71hp engine has an extremely low 93g/km of emissions - one of the best in-class. This also means it's a congestion charge free car, making it a great choice on the London commute.
2. There's plenty of interior space
The Smart ForTwo has the highest interior space ratio of any car in the class, with a 75% ratio of vehicle length to interior space. That means that despite the compact dimensions, there's still plenty of room for you and a passenger to relax and enjoy the excellent ride comfort.
3. It doesn't forgo any creature comforts
In fact, the 2015 Smart ForTwo is extremely well equipped - enough to rival any luxury saloon. The car comes with a stop/start function as standard and LED daytime running lights. On the inside cruise control also comes as standard, and options include a full leather interior with heated seats. Entertainment isn't left wanting, with satellite navigation available in addition to DAB radio and full media system with 3.5" touch screen.
4. You can go turbo
The Smart ForTwo comes with two available engine options, including a 1.0 litre engine offering 71bhp, and 0.9 litre turbocharged unit. This produces a mighty 90bhp - yet still manages 67mpg on the combined cycle! How many city cars offer that?
5. There's a sports package
Not all city cars offer a sports package - but the Smart ForTwo does. Feel like a real racing driver with 10mm lowered suspension, alloy sports pedals and a chrome exhaust. Not to mention that all-important leather steering wheel that exudes class. The ForTwo is also available with 16" alloy wheels for that sporty look.
6. It's a true compact car
The new Smart ForTwo, for all its new features, is still a true city car at heart. In fact, it measures just 2.69m in length and means it can fit in to the smallest of parking spaces. The ForTwo's bigger brother, the new Smart ForFour, has four doors which can open at an impressive 85 degree angle for easy access in cramped spaces.
7. Plenty of storage space
The Smart ForTwo has more than enough interior space, with a total of 260 litres storage space to store your items in. With the front seat lowered, this extends to an impressive 350 litres - more than enough for a set of suitcases or a week's shopping.
8. A tiny turning circle
The Smart features a tiny turning circle. Thanks to the rear-engine set up of the car, the front wheels of the Smart ForTwo can turn at a near 90-degree angle. This means that the turning circle surpasses that of even the London black cab. With a full U-turn needing just 6.95m, it makes getting out of a tight spot even easier than ever.
9. The Smart is super safe
The Smart ForTwo comes with a host of safety equipment as standard, including isofix seat fixings on the passenger seats and 5 interior airbags. The Smart received a four-star NCAP safety rating.
Revolutionary features for a city car, the Smart also features a tyre pressure monitoring system, a cruise control feature with electric speed limiter, and a crash sensor system which automatically activates the hazard lights. Collision Prevention Assist is also available as an option
10. It's rear engine drive
Just like the classic sports cars, the Smart ForTwo is rear-engine. This helps in a number of ways, reducing engine noise in the front cabin and vastly improving the standard for city car refinement. It also means there's plenty of leg room, as the passenger compartment pushes through in to what would normally be the engine bay.
It also gives the Smart ForTwo its fantastic turning circle, with wheels that can almost turn the full 90 degrees.
11. Excellent economy
The new Smart ForTwo can offer up to 69mpg on the combined cycle - impressive for a petrol engine with a top speed of 94mph- making constant trips to the petrol station and back a thing of the past.
The turbocharged 989cc engine even reaches a combined 67.3mpg, and can reach 60mph in just 10.4 seconds.
12. Fresh new looks
The new Smart Car range looks extremely smart. Fact. The Mercedes-Benz inspired honeycomb grille is accompanied by a bold new look all of its own, including two-tone bodywork thanks to a design feature known as the tridion cell. Not only a stylish design feature, this cell keeps the Smart chassis rigid and safe.
It's available in 24 different colour combinations, with three wheel options and three grille colours for the ultimate personalisation. The new Smart has a wider track, raised bonnet and a more pronounced shoulder line for a distinct road presence like no other small car.
