Stratstone Derby team with the all-new MINI hatchback

The all new MINI 2014 is here, and to celebrate we were taken back to 1959.

The highly anticipated new MINI,  the new original, is a completely new model from the ground up and was launched in true party style across Stratstone dealerships on the evening of Friday 14 March.
We joined the party at Stratstone MINI Derby and it didn’t disappoint. We were taken back to 1959, for a themed launch with the whole team dressed in vintage clothing, alongside a live artist performing classic songs, such  as 'Pretty Woman' and 'I Want to Hold Your Hand'.
The vintage theme continued with a classic mini displayed within the dealership and other retro touches, such as vinyl records and a jukebox while guests enjoy Babycham and themed canapés.

Minutes before the all new MINI was revealed, guests were treated to a video montage of the history of this outstanding British built automotive legend.
At exactly 20:14, the reveal silks were removed and we were face to face with brand new 2014 MINI.
The third generation MINI is a completely new model, providing a more improved car than the previous model, as the bigger dimensions have allowed the new model to be safer, quieter and roomier. The new model is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 4mm taller giving more room for four occupants and their luggage with 211 litres boot space which is 30% more.
Four key features of the MINI have evolved, with technology, power, efficiency and dynamics all being enhanced to keep the go-karting experience intact.

The new MINI Cooper Hatch has a three cylinder engine producing 134 bhp and the four cylinder Cooper S making 189 bhp. The Cooper D comes in with 114bhp but has combined average economy of 80.7mpg (EU test cycle).
Technology and dynamics come together for the standard six speed manual gearbox as it features rev matching on downshifts. The improved automatic transmission sees faster shift times than the manual whilst returning greater fuel economy and lower emissions.
MINI Connected is back to keep you in touch via social media and to keep you going throughout your MINI adventures. You can use online based services in your MINI with web radio and social media such as Facebook and Twitter are available. MINI Connect XL is there to help guide you with real-time traffic information, while a heads up display is a new feature to MINI which relays relevant information to driver.

MINI enthusiasts need not worry though, as the level of customisation is even bigger this time around with even more accessories to make your MINI unique. Accessories include decorative trims for the roof, mirrors, bonnet, seat upholstery, interior surfaces, new paints and colour lines.
The infamous MINI front lights have been changed to have ring shaped LED running lights with an option to have full LED headlights to brighten the road ahead of you.

As you unlock the MINI, there is no key to turn as all models are keyless. However, you are met with a pulsating red fighter jet toggle switch near the gearstick to start the engine. The gear knob has been changed to give a better grip and feel, and the bezel around the gear knob now allows you to switch between green, normal or sport to suit your driving mood.
It’s all familiar for MINI owners on the inside but more ergonomic this time around as the speedometer and rev counters are directly behind the wheel. The big central speedo has been changed to house all the sat nav screens or infotainment data, which clears space on the dash for large illuminated round dials for heating controls.
An innovative safety is built in with a permanent installed SIM card which is there for optional functions, such as emergency call. In an event of an accident, the system detects the vehicle's location, accident severity and contacts a call centre for fast and effective assistance.

For all those tight parking spaces and hard to see spots, MINI has heard your calls, so there are rear view cameras and parking assistant available to stop those unwanted parking dings. MINI wants to keep you safe, so there is a driving assistant option which adds a camera-based cruise control and based control function to keep you in predetermined distance from the vehicle ahead. It also includes a pedestrian and collision warning system with road sign detection, initial brake function and high beam assistant.
Team members were always on hand to talk through any questions and the new features on the car and as the evening came to a close,  the MINI owners we spoke to were left impressed with new MINI and could not wait to get behind the wheel.
New MINI is now available at all  Stratstone dealers.
