The popular second generation of Mercedes B-class, which has sold more than 350,000 units since it went on sale in 2011, has undergone a notable revamp which brings it comfortably to the forefront of modern styling.
The redefined looks and dynamics of the popular sports tourer are accompanied by a range of technological changes and new equipment lines.
These include a new range of engines, including a selection of efficient diesel engines which range from 56.5 mpg up to an impressive 78.5 mpg - a true class benchmark.
Frugal petrol engines will offer up to 53 mpg, whilst still providing the performance expected of this class leader.
The redefined shape includes a remodelled front bumper with wider radiator trim and LED daytime running lights integrated in the headlights. Optional high-performance LED offer new levels of safety and visibility for driving in all conditions.
Additional safety features include reworked Collision Prevention Assist which administers partial braking if the risk of a collision is detected. While Attention Assist monitors the attention level of the driver.
Brand New Models
Other options, and a first for the series, include an 'Electric Drive' variation - a fully electric version which uses the same motor as that found in Tesla models. The lithium-ion battery is housed in the underbody of the vehicle, allowing the B-Class to retain the impressive boot space which makes it so popular in this class.
An All Wheel Drive (AWD) version will also be available in the form of the 4Matic, and will be able to deal with more demanding terrain. This particular model reduces emissions to 130 g CO2/km from over 150 g CO2/km in previous models.
An ideal family car, with a practical build and sporty dynamics, prices for the new B-Class start at £22,575 OTR for the B 180 manual.
