Jaguar Land Rover have become the first manufacturer to launch the revolutionary JustDrive app, set to redefine in-car connectivity with an instinctive, voice-activated experience.
The deal was announced in the wake of the Los Angeles motor show, and helps to bring Jaguar Land Rover entertainment systems ahead of the competition with "one of the most advanced plain speech recognition packages in the world."
In the past, in-car entertainment systems with voice recognition have been notoriously poor to use, and JLR look to set themselves apart from the pack with their new recognition system. The app will offer features such as voice controlled navigation, as well as offering a dictation system for sending texts.
The app aims to offer the next level of intuitive control, by using the voice to control media; social interaction and voice searches whilst minimising distractions to the driver. Makers Cloud Car have worked on the app extensively with Jaguar Land Rover so that it becomes an assistance to the driver, with a clean interface that only shows essential information.
JustDrive joins 17 other apps currently in use by JLR's inControl infotainment system, including those such as Stitcher and IHeartRadio. The app, which is free to download, will be available from early next year on any vehicle in the Jaguar Land Rover range with the inControl app system.
The inControl system is popular with existing owners, who are already able to plug their smartphone into the infotainment and control their apps through the touch screen. It supports both Android and IOS devices, and provides a simple way to access content on the move.
The JustDrive deal comes as Jaguar Land Rover open a £2m research and development facility in Portland, with the intention to lead future development of infotainment systems and stay ahead of the curve.
