Discover the New Mercedes-Benz CLS 2018

The third generation Mercedes-Benz CLS builds on the success of both the first and second generations, following its debut in 2003. This was an iconic moment for the Mercedes-Benz brand as the unveiling of the CLS established a brand new automotive segment, as for the first time, a combination of the elegance and dynamism of a coupé and the comfort and functionality of a saloon was formed.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the highly emotive vehicle that offers impressive long-distance and acoustic comfort coupled with thrilling, unrivalled technology - the CLS pioneers the new design idiom of Mercedes-Benz which is based on 'Sensual Purity'. Despite all of its innovative features and contemporary new look, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS blends seamlessly into the current Mercedes-Benz coupé family and is due to enter the market in March 2018.

Building more strongly than ever on the aura and unique character of this innovative model, the third generation CLS boasts a sleeker silhouette and clear contours and reduced lines which combined, create a 'fast' looking profile, boasted by the infamous Mercedes model. The new design philosophy is accompanied by frameless windows, an arching waistline and low roofline, allowing the new CLS to maintain the coupe aesthetic that the infamous brand is renowned for and allows for a sporty stance.

In addition to the new, sleeker silhouette, the stylish yet practical four-door saloon boasts a bigger headlight cluster- different to anything Mercedes has ever done before, a grille contour that widens towards the base and a forward-slanting front section and twin air intakes. The original CLS which made its debut in 2003, was created with intentions of combining the elegance of a coupe with the comfort and practicality of a saloon, and the stylish new generation CLS is no exception to this.

Striking front-end features of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS include the diamond grille- typical of Mercedes-Benz coupés- and distinctive of the CLS design heritage, the contemporary new model boasts a muscular rear shoulder line which blends effortlessly into the flat rear end.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Interior

As expected, the interior of the new CLS is luxurious yet functional and Mercedes-Benz have once again used their design skills to create a stylish, spacious and sporty interior to coincide with the car's new-look. A blend of elegance and sportiness, with colour combinations that complement each other, create an impression of spaciousness in the cabin of the new Mercedes-Benz model.

As well as offering plenty of room and sophistication, the cabin of the CLS also offers comfort as bespoke CLS seats that feature premium materials and quilted leather are just one of the many features that offer a comfortable environment for occupants of the vehicle. The specialist seats were designed exclusively for this model series and the front seats are also heated.

The new CLS offers the possibility for three passengers to fit comfortably in the back- both the outside rear seats are identical to those in the front in order to create a sporty single-seat impression, whilst offer practicality to passengers. The rear bench will fold in a 40:20:40 formation and the boot space boasts a modest 520 litres.

Inside the cabin, a mixture of lighting, musical and climate control elements are offered to create a serene environment and offer an ergonomic driving experience. This feature - known as 'ENERGISING comfort control'- was designed with the intention of improving well-being and performance levels. This new feature functions under six programmes- Freshness, Warmth, Vitality, Joy, Comfort and Training and brings fragranced air-conditioning, seat heating/massaging functions, hi-fi and ambience lighting which is individually adjustable in 64 colours to suit motorist's mood.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Technology

The new generation CLS has many things in common with the automotive flagship of the entire industry- also known as the new S Class- including many innovative features. State-of-the-art tech including Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist, Speed Limit Assist and the occupant protection system PRE-SAFE, are just a fraction of the features offered in the new CLS.

The CLS comes with LED headlights, 18 inch light-alloy wheels, a 12.3 inch infotainment display, ambient lighting package, Mercedes' connected services and 3G internet as standard and other features can be fitted as part of the Driver Assistance Plus package.

The Driver Assistance Plus Package offers In-Car-Office- a feature which allows CLS drivers to use office functions directly in the vehicle and access important data. Drivers will automatically be able to dial in to conference calls and navigate to meetings, based on diary entries. Other features offered with the package include smartphone connectivity via Mercedes-Benz Link and wireless charging.

The touchpad in the centre console gives haptic and acoustic feedback when operating the numerous convenience functions and settings. All this information is displayed on a high-resolution widescreen. The fully digital cockpit offered can display information in one of three different styles that suit the driving situation - classic, sport and progressive.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Performance

The range of engines for the CLS is completely new. Three six-cylinder models are available - two diesels and one petrol. The CLS 450 4MATIC is the most powerful in the line-up and is powered by the new, systemically electrified in-line six-cylinder EQ Boost and a 48 volt onboard electric motor, producing 367 bhp and allows the CLS to achieve 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds. Despite only being a six-cylinder model, the CLS is capable of the same performance as an eight-cylinder engine with significantly lower consumption- economy of 37mpg.

In comparison to the petrol engine, the output of the diesel unit ranges from 286bhp and (CLS 350 d 4MATIC) through to 340 hp (CLS 400 d 4MATIC), both with a fuel consumption of 50mpg- all components relevant to efficient emissions reduction have been installed directly on the engine.
There is a choice of three variants when it comes to suspension of the new CLS which boasts a four-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension. The steel comfort suspension comes as standard with the new generation model nd in addition to this, AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension, which offers addition comfort and improves the CLS' driving ability is available on request. The driver is able to choose vehicle characteristics from comfortable to sporty using the driving mode switch, depending on journey type and road conditions.
