The weekend of 16th - 17th July saw the idyllic countryside of Worcestershire host the biggest event in the Shelsley Walsh calendar - the long awaited Classic Nostalgia Experience. Home to the oldest motorsports venue in the world, the venue was founded by The Midland Automobile club who organise motoring activities and events throughout the year. Featuring a host of classic and vintage race cars, the event celebrates everything retro with nostalgic wartime songs and dancing in the courtyard, period fancy dress and a wartime vehicle display.

This year we invited over 200 guests to join us at the iconic hill to enjoy a VIP experience from our Stratstone hospitality tipi. Located in prime position and shaded from the glorious sunshine, guests were able to enjoy the event in the most exclusive way with great views of the track.  From complimentary food and drink throughout the day, to access to the pits, driver area and finish line. The event will leave a lasting impression for many!

Greeted with beautiful sunshine and with a fantastic line up of action, it turned out to be an outstanding weekend with Shelsley celebrating and rekindling the past. Saturday marked the opening of this icon event and the first run of the day began at 9am. Stratstone guests were able to enjoy great views of the start line from our Stratstone grand stand which is at the heart of the hill climb action.

The biggest news of the weekend was that an icon was returning to the hill! The Auto Union C Type - a true racing legend, this machine was the most successful racing car of the German Grand Prix in 1936. Originally driven by Hans Stuck in 1936, Stuck's son, Hans-Joachim took the wheel 80 years on to make history once again at Shelsley. A wonderful sight and sound, this was a fabulous moment to be a part of.

Throughout the weekend the grounds were full of exciting displays of classic and newer model cars. Triumph held their annual Standard Triumph Marque day with 500 pre 1984 vehicles on show. There was also a great display from visiting car clubs to set your eyes on, from the likes of The Regional Porche Club to The Jaguar XK Enthusiasts - there was certainly something to suit all tastes! The weekend proved to be a car lover's paradise and a great opportunity for guests to get up close to the cars that were racing.

With both days paying an exciting tribute to the golden era of Group B rallying, guests were able to enjoy a throw back to the 1980's with a celebration of Group B vehicles. After being banned in the 1980s this was a special occurrence to relive these iconic cars smoking up the track. Featuring some of the most notable cars from the time, with the likes of the Ferarri 308GTB, BMW M4 DTM, and the Audi IMSA S4 GTO which had not yet been seen on British soil. There were some great sights and sounds to experience!

Another bright day on Sunday, guests were able to experience Shelsley's very own Concours De Elegance. Judged by Classic and SportsCar magazine, the first 100 cars displayed battled it out for a place in the top 15 parade. Coming in pride of place was the 1935 MG K.N. Pillarless Magnette Saloon, there are only 14 of this beautiful classic left and our guest Peter  owns two!

Drawing a fabulous weekend to a close, guests gathered one last time for the final star of the event. Making its debut at Shelsley, the legendary Audi DS GTO was powered up once again by Hans-Joachin, revving up the track and reliving the race cars potential. Back behind the wheel since 1992 when he drove the Audi DS GTO in the Wasbank Modified Series in South Africa, it was a great way to mark the last climb and round off a successful event.

After a great weekend of sun, cars and all things retro, we're looking forward to spending another weekend with our valued Stratstone customers on 20th August where Shelsley Walsh host 'The Shelsley Walsh Experience'. Tickets available here.
