An epic run of up to 100 miles in length, the ultra-marathon is a sporting event unlike any other.

Gruelling and demanding on every competitor, Stratstone BMW Tyneside was on hand to support the St Oswalds Ultra Race Series 2015 this weekend. The Event saw runners take on the challenge of either a 50km, 100km or the ultimate 100 mile run to test their endurance.

With the help of the all-new BMW X4, the Stratstone team were on hand to offer support to intrepid runners. Situated alongside some idyllic coastal causeway, our X4 was an official support vehicle for the St Oswalds Ultra, providing much-needed supplies throughout the race. Closely aligned with the runners themselves, the X4 combines a bold and athletic character with the true go-anywhere ability.

Largely coastal, each running route ventured in to the historic scenery around Northumberland, from the Holy Island through to Hadrian's Wall and the ancient village of Chollerford.

It gave runners of the full 100-mile adventure the chance to re-tread the path which King Oswald took when leading his troops from Lindisfarne to the battle at Havenfield in the early 7th Century. In the villages of Craster and Rothbury, the 50km and 100km races respectively had equally picturesque finish locations.

The 50km and 100km races had time limits of 8 hours and 18 hours, whilst the cut-off point to complete the 100 mile stretch was 34 hours for those running through the night. The course record was set by Dan Shrimpton who ran the event in just 18 hours 56 minutes.

It was a fantastic event and we hope our X4 support vehicle managed to inspire you along the way!
