Design and Practicality
Comprising of an intriguing design, full of optimised and perfectly flowing proportions, the new Range Rover Velar uses a modernist design philosophy, encompassing clean, reductive and compelling desirability.
A new grille combines perfectly with the interesting 'floating roof' which are both joined by seamless deployable door handles for a textbook showcase of uncompromising design.
Inside is typical of a luxury Range Rover, with plush materials occupying every surface. It is easy to find the ideal driving position because of the highly adjustable front seats.
Head room is very good throughout the cabin, as is rear passenger space. Fitting a child's seat is straight forward because of the easily accessible ISOFIX anchor points.
Head to the boot and you will find a huge amount of cargo space behind the power tailgate.
Technology and Safety
Active Road Noise Cancellation, which is available with the Meridian sound system, ensures the luxury character of Range Rover models is in full effect, ensuring the Velar is the quietest in its class when it comes to road noise.
The latest evolution of the Pivi Pro 7 infotainment system features a 11.4-inch floating curved glass screen which is more ergonomically positioned for a better experience, and offers features such as DAB digital radio, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®.
Safety is also taken care of effectively thanks to the AWD system, whilst Terrain Response 2 allows the driver to select perfect settings for multiple terrains or weather. Features such as Lane Keep Assist, 3D Surround Camera, Front and Rear Parking Aid, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, Driver Condition Monitor, and Emergency Braking heighten safety even more.
Engines and Performance
The new Range Rover Velar is available with the latest generation of Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, which also feature mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) technology.
Velar is also available as a P400e electric hybrid, offering up to 40 miles of fully-electric range, with a zero to eighty percent charge capable in just 30 minutes when using a 50kW charger.
There are three sole petrol choices joining the electric hybrid in the form of the P250 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, whilst a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder is available in a P340 and P400 variant.
A D200 2.0-litre 4-cylinder and D300 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel are also available.
Range Rover Velar can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in as little as 5.1 seconds.
Charging
Rapid charging of the 17.1kWh lithium-ion battery, from 0 to 80 percent, can be achieved in as little as 30 minutes using a 32kW DC public charge station. There are now thousands of public charging stations located around the UK; making charging your Range Rover Velar plug-in electric hybrid away from home much simpler.
The cost of charging at a public station varies, with some being free to use and some requiring payment via a mobile app, membership or contactless card.
Alternatively, using a 7kW domestic wallbox charges the battery from 0 to 80 percent in approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. These can be installed at your home or workplace fairly easily in most cases.
