Two Stratstone retailers will be supporting Clean Air Day 2018, a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution in a bid to encourage people to reduce and avoid outdoor pollution. Environmentally-friendly motoring is just one of many concepts that the campaign pushes, and BMW Doncaster and Jaguar Land Rover Cardiff will be encouraging this message by showcasing some of their impressive electrified vehicles at public events in June.

BMW Doncaster will be showcasing an i3 and i8 at Frenchgate shopping centre in South Yorkshire, allowing customers to experience everything the models have to offer, including their innovative technology, unique styling and electrified capabilities. Similarly, Jaguar Land Rover Cardiff will also have vehicles from their electrified product range on display at St David's shopping centre, between 21st and 24th June. The impressive I-PACE will be there, a ground-breaking model released earlier this year, as well as the PHEV Range Rover - a pioneering model in the electric line-up. There will also be two electric vehicle (EV) charging ports on display at the event, so people can learn more about how they work. Team members from the retailer and EV specialists will be on hand to answer any questions and carry out demonstrations of the revolutionary features that all of the models have to offer.

What is Clean Air Day?

Focusing on air pollution and the severity of harm that is caused to the health of millions, Clean Air Day gives people the opportunity to learn more about air pollution, as well as allow them to get involved and share information about the issue with others. Through this campaign, they hope to educate people on the issue, with the aim to help make the air cleaner and healthier for everyone. One of the main causes of air pollution is the emissions created from the general public driving cars, particularly older diesel cars.

With cars, vans and lorries responsible for a high proportion of air pollution, the Clean Air Day campaign is pushing motorists to 'drive into the future' and opt for an EV. EVs have many benefits, from low running costs, to cheaper road tax in comparison to a conventional vehicle, meaning their costs over a lifetime are a lot less than most people think. More and more automotive brands are bringing out electrified models, as well as developing electric or hybrid versions of their current models. The Dubai Motor Show 2017 showcased numerous impressive hybrid models, many of which are setting standards for the future of electrified cars.

Alternative Fuel Types

  • Clean Air Day

EVs run on an electric motor rather than a conventional combustion engine and are becoming an increasingly popular choice amongst motorists now the range available is increasing.

  • Clean Air Day

Using both a petrol engine and an electric motor to power the car, HEVs incorporate both technologies simultaneously and do not have to be plugged in to be charged. Power lost through braking is used to recharge vehicles.

  • Clean Air Day

PHEVs are powered by both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. PHEVs can be recharged using an external electric power source or by using the engine as a generator to charge the vehicle up.

  • Clean Air Day

MHEVs use a mild hybrid system that works by gathering and storing energy which is normally lost through braking and is redeployed to assist the combustion engine. This system drastically improves vehicle fuel economy.

Range Rover Sport Hybrid

The electrification of the iconic Range Rover was the first step towards Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) aim of producing an electrified option of each model by 2020. The brand-new hybrid powertrain is the combination of a 114bhp electric motor and one of JLR's 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines. This combination results in ultra-low emissions being produced as well as an EV range of up to 31 miles. A refined drive is offered thanks to seamless transition between the petrol engine and electric motor, whilst 'Parallel Hybrid mode' combines petrol and electric drive. Inside, occupants are met by a Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which is complemented by a luxurious and stylish design.

Jaguar I-PACE

Jaguar have raised the bar for premium car manufacturers by announcing plans to electrify all of their models by 2020 - two decades ahead of the deadline set by the Government and the release of the I-PACE was a ground-breaking move for Jaguar. This SUV is Jaguar's first ever all-electric sports car and is complete with an all-wheel drive system. Not only does it offer impeccable styling, an exhilarating ride and an impressive cabin with two touchscreen infotainment systems, but it also has a surpassing mileage range, too. The I-PACE produces 395bhp and has a 0-60mph speed of 4.5 seconds, both of which are complemented by mileage range of circa 300 miles.

BMW i3 and i8

These models from BMW have revved up the German automotive brand's electric future. The BMW i3 and i8 are well known models in the EV segment and are two very significant products in the car manufacturer's electric range. The i3 is perfect for city driving and is powered by a fully emission-free electric motor. As the electric motor produces instant torque, the i3 offers impressive acceleration and also has a mileage range of up to 100 miles, whilst the range-extended variant of the i3 has a mileage range of circa 270 miles.

The BMW i8 is one of the most progressive plug-in hybrid sports cars available right now and focuses on two pivotal aspects; efficiency and driving dynamics. Not only does the i8 look good thanks to its futuristic styling and stand-out design, but its performance is remarkable, achieving 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds and an electronic limited top speed of 155mph, the i8 offers an incredible driving experience. BMW i ConnectedDrive solutions can be found inside the cabin, keeping motorists fully connected at all times.
