Introducing the BMW X1 Plug-in Hybrid
As practical and as powerful as ever, the BMW X1 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) brings an even more economical version to the existing X1 range.
Whether you regularly drive short or long journeys, the plug-in hybrid model can offer a driving experience to suit all.
For shorter journeys you can drive in pure electric mode, which means you can enjoy a more cost-effective drive whilst emitting zero emissions. Plus, you have free access to ultra low emission zones in some UK cities.
However, when setting off on a cross-country trek, the efficient petrol engine engages and delivers a powerful and refined driving experience.
Range and Performance
Pure electric driving, with zero emissions and enhanced refinement, can be experienced for up to 32 miles (WLTP combined).
Combining a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a specially developed electric drive system, the X1 xDrive25e Plug-in Hybrid is cutting-edge and delivers a combined power output of 217bhp and fuel consumption between 148.7 and 166.2mpg.
Despite being fuel efficient, the plug-in hybrid version of the X1 has not suffered a decrease in performance as it is still capable of reaching 62mph from zero in just 6.9 seconds, quicker than the petrol and diesel powered X1 models.
Impressive AUTO eDRIVE uses navigation data to optimise the car's two power sources, whilst MAX eDRIVE is for an all-electric drive. Both of these driving modes can be selected using the eDRIVE button.
Charging
In less than 3.2 hours the battery, powering the X1 Plug-in Hybrid, can be fully charged using a BMW i Wallbox.
Without this dedicated Wallbox, the PHEV can still be charged using a regular household plug socket and the standard equipment charging cable, however, it will take a slightly longer time of about five hours to reach full capacity.
When plugging-in at home or work is not an option you can rest assured that there will be a public charging station located nearby, with some offering rapid charging facilities.
Select SAVE BATTERY mode using the e-Drive button and the car will intelligently maintain the charging state of the battery while driving.
