394bhp Range Rover Sport HST Edition Released

Land Rover recently unveiled this all new special edition Range Rover Sport HST, which has been designed to redefine the large SUV game with its all-new turbocharged straight-six engine that is assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system.

The idea behind this is to reduce the emissions produced by the Range Rover while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption. In other words, it is a step towards a brighter and greener future for the marque brand.

Interior

The standard Range Rover Sport is a special place to spend time as it is. However, the HST builds on this by adding 16-way Dynamic front seats that feature an updated colour pattern. The seats are designed to offer high levels of support and adjustment while ensuring you remain comfortable and secure.

The seats have been complemented by a couple of subtle but classy touches around the interior. The steering wheel and gear lever feature suede cloth detailing, while the gear shift paddles have a satin chrome effect to give the ultimate contrast behind the steering wheel. To top this all off is HST badging that features on the fascia.

Owners will benefit from Land Rover's innovative Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that allows the user to control a variety of functions at the flick of a finger.

Exterior

Land Rover certainly knew how to maximise the presence of the Range Rover Sport when they released the latest generation. Aggressive slanting headlights, a tall yet sleek profile and smoothly contoured body panels, the Sport stands out from the crowd for all the right reasons.

With the HST, Land Rover have built on the stunning foundations by adding a few carefully selected additions that enhance the appearance. There will be two exclusive alloy wheel designs for prospective owners to choose from, as well as a range of stunning paint colours that include Spectral British Racing Green and Spectral Racing Red.

On top of these changes, behind the large wheels will be similarly large red brake calipers. To finish off the body changes, there is bespoke badging as well as carbon fibre trim for the bonnet, front grille, side vents and tailgate.

Technology

Land Rover have packed the Range Rover Sport HST with a variety of technology that is designed to make driving easier and more enjoyable, regardless of the terrain. The HST comes with adjustable air springs and active dampers, which allow the driver to change the ride height and compliance of the suspension to suit their needs or driving style.

As with any Range Rover Sport, drivers will benefit from Land Rover's extensive knowledge and experience of off-roading. As a result, the HST comes with Land Rover's 'Terrain Response 2' system, which monitors the terrain it is driving over and adjusts the suspension and distribution of power accordingly to maximise grip.

Performance

Perhaps the most notable feature in the Range Rover Sport HST that distinguishes it from the rest of the range lies underneath the bonnet. The all-new member of the Ingenium family takes shape in the form of a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six mild-hybrid engine. The output is as impressive as you would expect, with nearly 400bhp on tap and 550NM of torque available at the blip of the throttle.

The most innovative part of the new engine is the mild-hybrid system, which utilises an electrically-driven compressor - that is powered by a 48V battery - to assist the petrol powered engine, so that acceleration is seamless and lag-free. The system also has the ability to recover energy using regenerative braking and store it in the battery for later use, such as when pulling away from a standstill.

Because of this mild-hybrid system, the Range Rover HST can deliver up to 30.5 mpg on a combined cycle with emissions as low as 213g/km of CO2. This is simply remarkable for a large SUV that delivers nearly 400bhp.
