With the first-generation coming along in 2004, the 1 Series has now been around for two decades, cementing itself as a fine premium hatchback.
Showcasing a newly revised dynamic design presence, alongside an all-new drive portfolio, complemented by extensively improved chassis technology, this all-new BMW 1 Series has evolved, sharpening its profile and presence even further.

Design and Practicality
Classic BMW proportions ensure the 1 Series showcases a dynamic roofline, powerful rear end and flowing long bonnet.
Sitting significantly lower to the road than its predecessor, the new 1 Series signals a sportier character, whilst a number of stylish wheel designs enhance the stance further.
The new wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille features a dynamic innovative structure of diagonal and vertical elements, whilst LED lights further sharpen up the front end.
The dynamic wedge shape makes up the striking side view, whilst the rear end present two-part rear lights and a smart diffuser.
Practicality is typically decent, being a 1 Series with 5-doors as standard and a large 380-litre boot, which increases to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded.
Technology and Safety
The sporty, dynamic vibe of the new BMW 1 Series continues on the interior too.
Typically BMW, the interior features ergonomic, well-made, laid out controls with a digital vibe the main focus.
This is due to the 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display, which house all the driving information, and settings for keeping you connected. It runs the cutting-edge BMW Operating System 9 which is super slick and features essentials like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
State-of-the-art systems ensure safety has been taken care of to a tee, with the new 1 Series featuring cutting-edge tech including, but not limited to:
- Driving Assistant with front collision warning
- Lane Departure Warning
- Exit Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition

Engines and Performance
Engines in the new BMW 1 Series feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology.
At the top of the range sits the BMW M135 xDrive, which features a 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 296bhp, complemented by an Adaptive M Chassis with sport steering and intelligent all-wheel drive, and a 7-speed automatic transmission. This ensures fine handling and slick acceleration, allowing for 0 to 62mph to occur in just 4.9 seconds.
Elsewhere, there is a 3-cylinder petrol engine BMW 120, along with a 4-cylinder diesel engine in the 120d (both engines feature mild-hybrid technology like the M135).
Both the 120 and 120d feature a 7-speed auto dual clutch transmission as standard, with performance being slick with 0 to 62mph taking 7.8 seconds for the 120, and 7.9 seconds for the 120d.
