BYD Seal U DM-i PHEV

The first plug-in hybrid from BYD that is due on sale in the UK has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.

The Seal U DM-i SUV uses the Chinese EV giant’s advanced Super DM Technology that prioritises electric driving with ultra-low fuel consumption and energy efficiency.

It will be available later in 2024 with prices likely to start from just less than £40,000.

The vehicle measures 4,775mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,670mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,765mm.

The seats can be split 60:40 allowing its 552-litre boot to be increased to 1,440 litres when both seats are folded.

It uses a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor that is said to give it an emission-free range of around 60 miles.

The BYD Seal U DM-i uses the brand’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design language which takes its inspiration from the contours and movement of the ocean and has some design cues from the Seal coupe/saloon which was launched in the UK last year.

Its style is characterised by an X shaped front face, contoured bonnet and front bumper with integrated LED headlights and dual lenses. At the rear it has LED tail lights with a full width flowing light bar.

The electric hybrid system uses a Blade Battery and comes with AC/DC charging that allows the car to be recharged from 30 to 80 percent in 35 minutes on a DC facility.

There’s also a VTOL function which allows for external devices to be used and charged by the car.

Full details of the Seal U DM-i are still to be confirmed.
