2018 Range Rover Sport Hybrid

16th Oct 2017

Jaguar Land Rover made an announcement last month that all vehicles produced after 2020 will have an electrified option. The latest Range Rover, one of the company's most famous models, has therefore undergone electrification of its powertrain.

Land Rover have released plans for their new Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid. The all-new four-wheel-drive hybrid leads Land Rover's charge in providing a strong, robust model which delivers previously unimaginable performance and efficiency from a luxury SUV.

New Hybrid Powertrain – A First for Land Rover

With a total available power output of 404hp the new Hybrid does not compromise on power or performance. Fully Land Rover yet fully economical, the P400e is the first of a new breed of cleaner, greener machines. Thanks to its new powerplant, Range Rover Sport P400e emits a tiny 64 g/km of CO2 and is capable of a 31-mile commute within its all-electric range without use of the petrol engine. The official combined fuel economy figure is 101mpg.

The engines themselves are the combination of a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine (producing 300hp) and an 85kW electric motor supplying the rest. The permanent four-wheel-drive system delivers an impressive 0-60 mph time of just 6.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 137 mph.

With a colossal 640Nm of combined torque you will be thrilled by the forward thrust of the new Range Rover Sport P400e. The new adaptations only serve to add to the experience of driving, going above and beyond your expectations to provide superlative performance and sustainability with uncompromised capability and comfort.

Country Driving with Zero Emissions

Imagine the sheer bliss of driving your Range Rover off-road in total silence, taking in the glorious vista of the Great British countryside. With zero emissions (in EV mode) and superb off-road handling you can enjoy the great outdoors without polluting it. The hybrid powertrain of your Range Rover Sport P400e will enable you to not only conquer the highest mountain but also to side-step congestion charges in London.

Driving Modes Optimise Efficiency

Two driving modes are available to you as you drive the P400e. The default mode is the Parallel Hybrid mode. This combines petrol and electric drive enabling the driver to optimise Range Rover fuel economy and battery charge by selecting one of the two management functions:

Save: prevents battery charge dropping below a pre-determined level
Predictive Energy Optimisation (PEO): enables the car to choose the best engine to use by using GPS information regarding terrain and road types on the way to your intended destination, automatically switching to the most efficient powerplant to optimise the most efficient option for every journey.

Perfectly Balanced, Easy to Charge

The electric motor is powered by a 13.1kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery. The setup has the Ingenium petrol engine placed under the bonnet and the electric motor housed on top of the transmission, at the centre of the vehicle, resulting in excellent weight distribution.

When rapid charging, a full charge can be achieved in 2 hours 45 minutes. A standard charge from a dedicated socket or 32-amp wall box will fully charge the battery in 7 hours 30 minutes using a standard 10-amp home charging cable.

Range Rover Tax: Lower Band

The Range Rover Sport P400e has other benefits too. As an electric hybrid, benefit-in-kind company car tax is reduced from around 31% to just 13% (in the current tax year) thanks to those low carbon emissions.

Sharp Looks, Practical Layout

The exterior look is very much in keeping with the Range Rover mould, adapted to accommodate the charge socket and battery. This modernisation does not at all detract from the inimitable character of the Range Rover Sport

The 'Blade' infotainment system is state-of-the-art with twin 10-inch high-definition touchscreens forming the centrepiece of the dashboard. With the majority of functions neatly accessible via the screens, the cabin has a clean and unfussy layout which adds to the sense of tranquillity and order you get from driving the new PHEV.

Jaguar Land Rover have stated that it is their sincere intention to have an electrified option on all of their cars by 2020. Become part of their exciting electric revolution.
