Introducing the BMW 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid

Just as you thought the BMW 3 Series could not possibly be any better than it already is, BMW release plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models of both the 3 Series Saloon and the 3 Series Touring.

Running on electrical power alone for a maximum range of between 32 to 36 miles (WLTP), you can expect to see a great reduction in not only CO2 emissions but also running costs.

Both models are offered with BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system, BMW xDrive, or you can select their archetypal rear-wheel drive for the optimal sports-car driving experience.

It goes without saying that the hybrid powertrain enhances efficiency, but it also improves the driving dynamics of the 3 Series and, thanks to the electric motor, you will be granted instant acceleration.

Range and Performance

BMW 3 Series Touring Plug-in Hybrid Driving

Time to talk figures, impressive figures at that.

Combining a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, each of the plug-in hybrid models have a combined power output of 288bhp and the 330e XDrive Saloon boasts the fastest 0 to 62mph time of just 5.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, fuel consumption has been significantly enhanced; ranging from 156 to an almighty 201mpg.

On a single charge the PHEV models can achieve an all-electric range of 32-36 miles, emitting zero emissions. Not only is this better for the environment, it is also better for your pocket if you need to enter ultra-low emission zones in city centres.

Charging

BMW 3 Series Touring Plug-in Hybrid Charging

Inevitably, you will eventually need to re-charge the 3 Series PHEV and the good news is; it is a simple process.

Thanks to the latest advances in battery cell technology, BMW's battery cells, in the 3 Series PHEV models, have an exceptionally high storage capacity teamed with an extensive energy supply. This results in an impressive all-electric range and less frequent charging.

In just 2.4 hours the battery can be charged from zero to 80 percent, using a BMW i Wallbox, and with just an extra hour it will reach full capacity. Conventional household sockets can also be used, with the standard charging cable, to reach 80 percent within 4.2 hours or a full charge in 5.7 hours.

Whilst on the move, brake-energy recuperation re-charges the battery or there are plenty of public charging stations located around the UK.

Test drive the BMW 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid

It may sound cliché to suggest that BMW's 3 Series plug-in hybrids are the best of both worlds, but they offer all the benefits of an electrified car without compromising on the classic BMW driving pleasure.

To experience the full potential of the 330e Touring or 330e Saloon plug-in hybrid models, why not arrange a test drive at your closest Stratstone BMW dealership?
