An exclusive run of track-honed high-performance BMW M4 models is being released as part of the Bavarian carmaker’s 50th anniversary celebrations for its M sub-brand.
Priced from £128,820, only 100 versions of the BMW M4 CSL will come to Britain.
The car has been designed to create the ultimate in performance experiences, and it comes with a 40hp boost over the M4 Competition Coupé, taking it up to 550hp.
As such, it has a top speed electronically limited to 190mph and a 0 to 62 acceleration time of 3.7 seconds – 1.8 seconds quicker than the Competition model.
With a 2-seat configuration, BMW says the M4 CSL has track driving as its raison d’être and in testing the car has lapped the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife 12.8 mile-track in a 7:15.677 lap time – the best-ever figure for a BMW road car.
Production will begin at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in July 2022 and is strictly limited to 1,000 units globally.
Conventional components for the exterior, interior, powertrain and chassis have been replaced with lightweight model-specific alternatives with M Carbon full bucket seats reducing weight by 24kg, while 21kg was saved by removing the rear seats and belts.
Chassis changes such as the use of lightweight M Carbon ceramic brakes and special light-alloy wheels, springs and struts saved 21kg and switching to ultra-lightweight sound insulation saved around 15kg.
The use of CFRP in the body deducts 11kg, a titanium rear silencer cuts more than 4kg, and a further 4kg was saved from the BMW kidney grille, rear lights, floor mats and climate control.
Officially, the M4 CSL is rated at a best of 28.8mpg with emissions of 222g/km.
Prices correct as of 23/05/22 and are subject to change.
