Engines and Performance
As with many practical vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class comes in a range of different variations and engine choices. A multitude of familiar diesel engines are available, as well as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, but the petrol engines now come equipped with mild hybrid technology.
There are four mild hybrid petrol engines to choose from, ranging from 1.4 litres to 2.0 litres with differing amounts of power. The impressive 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is also available on the larger engines, ideal for the most adventurous of families.
If you are on the hunt for a diesel engine you can choose between the B 180 d, B 200 d, and B 220 d; all featuring a powerful 2.0-litre engine with power outputs of 114bhp, 148bhp, and 187bhp respectively. Diesel variants can return up to 62mpg.
Finally, there is the B 250 e plug-in hybrid, which offers a combined power output of 215bhp and up to 282mpg combined; a fantastic option in terms of efficiency.
Charging
Should you opt for the impressive plug-in hybrid powertrain, the batteries will need to be recharged for you to benefit from maximum efficiency. However, charging your Mercedes-Benz B-Class is simple, thanks to a variety of convenient charging solutions.
Charging options have been improved thanks to an upgraded battery that can now be charged with alternating current up to 11kW, compared to 7.4kW on its predecessor.
Direct current charges are the fastest, with charging times of as little as 25 minutes to get from 10 to 80 percent. A full charge will see your B-Class travel approximately 48 miles before energy is depleted and the ICE kicks in.
