Introducing the Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-in Hybrid
Popular, sporty and practical; the GLC SUV is already a truly desirable vehicle but add in a high-voltage battery and an electric motor and you get maximum efficiency with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
For those wanting the functionality of the GLC SUV, along with the economy of the plug-in hybrid model but prefer a coupé style; there is also the GLC Coupé Plug-in Hybrid.
Standard equipment is extensive and you can expect luxuries such as pre-entry climate control, Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and reversing camera, as well as the EASY-PACK tailgate. Of course, you also get the charging cables required for recharging the vehicle included too.
Range and Performance
In the GLC Plug-in Hybrid the electric motor can either be combined with a 2.0-litre diesel engine (GLC 300 de 4MATIC), or a 2.0-litre petrol engine (GLC 300 e 4MATIC).
Both models are remarkably powerful and efficient with the 300 de producing 302bhp, whilst returning up to an impressive 156.9mpg on a combined circle. Meanwhile, the 300 e delivers an outstanding 316bhp and still manages to to achieve a fuel consumption figure of up to 128.4mpg.
The PHEV variants can travel up between 26 and 29 miles in pure electric mode, with zero tailpipe emissions.
Longer journeys are still manageable in this superior SUV as the petrol or diesel engine will engage and work simultaneously with the electric motor to reach higher speeds or travel further distances.
Mention the word charging and some people may be nervous but essentially the process is just as easy as refuelling a car powered by an internal combustion engine, if not easier.
The fastest charging method is visiting one of the thousands of public charging stations, located around the UK. However, this can carry a slightly heftier cost and may be considered less convenient than charging at home or work.
Not everyone has the luxury of charging at a permanent residence but if it is an option the GLC PHEV can either be charged using a domestic 3-pin plug socket or a dedicated wall box. The vehicle can be fully charged from 10 percent in just one and a half hours, using the wall box, or in five hours using a standard household socket.
