Details of the next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class have been revealed ahead of the car’s arrival later in 2023.

The sixth generation of the executive saloon has been significantly restyled, with a new-look grille that nods to the design used on the all-electric Mercedes EQ models and slimmer lights front and rear.

Three powertrains have been announced – petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid – and all are electrified.

Mercedes-Benz says the 2.0-litre diesel model will be able to average up to 58.9mpg while petrol versions will be capable of 44.1mpg.

On paper, the plug-in hybrid is rated at more than 560mpg with an electric-only range of more than 70 miles, while emissions are as low as 12g/km.

CO2 figures for the 2.0-litre petrol are 144g/km, with the diesel achieving 125g/km in two-wheel drive models and 130g/km in all-wheel drive variants.

There will be no EV version in the line-up, with battery electric Mercedes EQE already on sale.

The new car is slightly larger than the current model, but boot space remains the same at 540 litres for the petrol and diesel versions and 370 litres for the plug-in.

Aerodynamic features include an active radiator grille and flush-fitting door handles.

Inside, the new E-Class has the availability of an optional Superscreen dashboard with three display screens for the driver and front passenger and all powered by the Mercedes MBUX technology system.

A full range of safety features is fitted, and the car can be valet parked automatically.

Although the car is bigger than before, its turning circle has been reduced and with optional rear steering is now at 10.8 metres.

Pricing is still to be confirmed, but is expected to start from around £50,000.

Prices correct as of 26/04/2023 and are subject to change.
