Introducing the all-new BMW M5

With over 40 years of history to its name, the legend continues with the seventh generation of the iconic BMW M5, or G90 to enthusiasts, representing the flagship model of the BMW 5 Series range.

After first appearing in 1984 with the birth of the E28 M5, this is a car that has gone on to evolve into the textbook 'super saloon' offering typical BMW comfort with incredible high performance we have come to expect from BMW M.

And, for the first time ever, the new M5 comes with accompanying electric power. Discover all you need to know below in more detail.

Engines and Performance

BMW M5 Front Angle Static

Electrified drive appears for the first time ever in the M5, thanks to the M HYBRID system.

This is made up via a high-revving V8 M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine, working alongside an electric motor. The power is distributed via an 8-speed automatic M Steptronic transmission, enhanced with m xDrive all-wheel drive, to ensure all of 717bhp can be used with confidence, at any time.

This ensures textbook levels of M5 performance, with 0 to 62mph taking 3.5 seconds with a 155mph top speed, or circa 190mph if you option the ability too.

87mph can be achieved in fully-electric mode, too.

Chassis and Handling

BMW Rear Angle Driving

Of course, being an M car, the M5 is naturally sharp and continues the trait of being excellent to drive, in keeping with family tradition.

This is thanks to a number of cutting-edge chassis and handling tweaks, to ensure the M5 is a fine car to drive, offering crisp and sharp handling.

Multi-stage stability control lets you tailor how spiky or relaxed you want the M5's handling to be, depending on your mood, or how playful you want the M5 to be when it comes to track work. Whilst rear-wheel steering and triple-mode adaptive suspension ensure handling and customisation can be crafted further to meet your exact desires.

Technology and Drive Modes

BMW M5 Interior

Along with being the first BMW M5 to feature electric power, there is much more technology on offer too.

The BMW Curved Display ensures the interior feels cutting-edge, whilst M-specific content makes it feel even more special, and of course lets you know you are behind the wheel of an M car.

An updated BMW Operating system, based on Operating System 8.5 further adds to the technology on offer.

Then there are the drive modes, in which there are many. You can tailor the Drivelogic system, along with the chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive. For example, if you prefer classic rear-wheel drive, you can select this in the xDrive system.

There are also 'ROAD, SPORT, DYNAMIC AND DYNAMIC PLUS' and 'TRACK' modes, to tailor your every drive, not forgetting 'HYBRID' and 'ELECTRIC' mode, too.

Charging

BMW M5 Charging

The new BMW M5 allows for AC charging at up to 7.4 kW. It can also run for up to 43 miles using just electric power. As with any electric or hybrid car, multiple charging options are available and will depend on your chosen set-up.
