With traditional petrol BMW 5 Series models, and a plug-in hybrid version too, finding your perfect BMW 5 Series could not be easier.
Discover all the new BMW 5 Series has to offer in more detail below.
Design and Practicality
The BMW 5 Series has been around since 1972, and has set the standard for executive and luxury saloon cars, with Touring versions also available from the 1990s. With its executive look, the BMW 5 Series has ensured each generation makes no mistake on making its mark, and this latest version carries on that evolution.
Here, the 5 Series is larger than before, being 10cm longer and 3cm wider than the previous generation, giving more space for improved practicality, and enhanced comfort.
A neat silhouette follows on from smaller models in the BMW range, with design cues such as larger front kidney grilles and chrome detailing used to outline the design.
The BMW kidney Iconic Glow available on M Sport Pro models highlights and frames the grille, whilst an optional panoramic roof adds even more luxury to this executive saloon.
A Touring version will be also available later in production.
Technology and Safety
The interior of the new BMW 5 Series is a digital feast of widescreen excellence.
A fully-digital instrument cluster, blending into a central infotainment screen is properly striking, and gives the 5 Series futuristic vibes, executed in a typical BMW premium fashion.
With such a digital focus, you can even stream YouTube videos or stream films on the central infotainment screen.
What is more, there is also a selection of AirConsole games to play on the 14.9-inch screen, with your smartphone doubling up as a controller, perfect for times waiting in the car to prevent boredom when not on the move.
And when on the move, smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available and ensures you can stay connected whilst on the move legally and safely.
Engines and Performance
This latest generation of BMW 5 Series is joined by the very first fully-electric 5 Series in the form of the BMW i5.
However, there is also a selection of more traditional petrol versions and a plug-in hybrid version too.
There is a 520i M Sport, along with a 520i M Sport Pro. These both offer a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with 151bhp and an 8-speed automatic transmission, complete with mild-hybrid assistance. This means 0 to 62mph is dealt with in 7.5 seconds.
A 530e plug-in hybrid with also be available with classic BMW rear-wheel drive and a 0 to 62mph time of 6.4 seconds.
For i5 variants, please see the dedicated BMW i5 page.
Charging
The 520i versions of the BMW 5 Series use mild-hybrid technology and therefore do not need charging (plugging-in), whilst the 530e PHEV will have charging times released in due course, closer to its UK launch.
