Design and Practicality
You can see the BMW i DNA in the i5's design, with its gloss black detailing on the grille and front bumper, along with crisp neat detailing on the wheels too.
It is a clean and modern look and falls in line nicely with other BMW i fully-electric models.
Step up to the i5 M60 and you get more presence with a fully black grille and distinct M badge expressing the car's dynamic and athletic ability.
Iconic Glow ensures the outline of the kidney grilles can be illuminated, highlighting the contours. Carbon can be seen on the mirror caps and spoiler to also indicate the i5 M60's performance potential.
Technology and Safety
Inside, the new BMW i5 is a complete digital feast, coming with a stunning 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which merges into a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment screen.
Here you will be able to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with being able to play YouTube videos and also stream films.
There is also a selection of AirConsole games to play on the infotainment screen, with your smartphone being used as a controller.
Safety will also offer many of the textbook BMW driver assistance packages to make driving easier, safer and more fun. The BMW i5 aims to fit in seamlessly with your life.
Engines and Performance
Being fully-electric, the BMW i5 has no engine and is instead powered by an electric motor and battery.
The standard model is a BMW i5 40 eDrive M Sport, with an optional M Sport Pro also available.
These both offer 247bhp and classic BMW rear-wheel drive for a 0 to 62mph time of 6.0 seconds, with an electrical range of between 312 and 357 miles.
The range-topping BMW i5 M60 xDrive comes with M car performance as standard. Therefore, power is increased to 436bhp with xDrive all-wheel drive for enhanced grip and acceleration.
The 0 to 62mph time drops to just 3.8 seconds whilst offering a total range of between 284 and 315 miles.
Charging
Charging capabilities for the BMW i5 range will be released in due course, but we can expect similar performance to the rest of the BMW i range.
BMW i5 Touring
Complementing the BMW 5 Series Saloon is the new Touring version.
With an impressive 570 litres of storage in the boot, it is the more practical 5 Series, for those looking for ultimate comfort mixed with fine practicality.
A digitally advanced cabin, featuring the new curved BMW Display Screen complements the package further, ensuring the BMW 5 Series Touring is yet another fine model in the dynamic BMW range, and the perfect daily driver.
