Range and Performance
Being a hybrid means that the Mercedes-Benz S-Class can take advantage of a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) whilst benefitting from a complementary electric motor, giving the car its PHEV status.
This means that performance and economy is hugely impressive, with a total power output of 362bhp from its 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, plus a further 148bhp electric motor and 28.6kWh battery. Power is sent to the rear-wheels via an ultra-smooth 9-speed automatic transmission.
Performance is excellent, with 0 to 62mph happening in just 5.2 seconds. Despite the incredible performance, this particular S-Class can return up to 353mpg.
And if you want to enjoy fully-electric driving, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Plug-in Hybrid has a total electric range of up to 63 miles.
Charging
Charging the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Saloon Plug-in Hybrid is beautifully simple. You can connect the S-Class Plug-in Hybrid to a DC rapid charger, which will give the S-Class PHEV 80 percent of its charge in as little as 20 minutes.
Using a wallbox charger from home will see the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Saloon Plug-in Hybrid fully-charged in around two to four hours, depending on your set-up and what type of wallbox you are using.
The beauty of a hybrid means that, along with the car's electric nature, the S-Class' engine can still be topped in the more familiar way of simply filling-up at your local petrol station.
