A coupé is being added to the Mercedes-AMG line up with the arrival of sharply styled versions of the GLC SUV that got the AMG performance treatment only a few months ago.

Both the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupé and the very potent GLC 63 S E Performance Coupé, which uses hybrid technology honed by the Mercedes F1 team, are powered by 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engines developing 415bhp and 469bhp respectively.

That makes the GLC 63 S E Performance Coupé the most powerful 4-cylinder production model in the world, and it has been mated to an electric motor that increases its output to 671bhp, resulting in a maximum of 171mph and a 0 to 62mph acceleration of 3.5 seconds.

Performance data for the GLC 43 Coupé is the same as that of the SUV, with a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds and a maximum restricted to 155mph.

The two versions have 9-speed automatic transmissions, all-wheel-drive assisted by rear-wheel steering and adaptive suspension.

Inside, they come with AMG seats and an AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminium paddle shifters, while the MBUX infotainment system includes various AMG-specific displays and functions.

These include the independent displays in the instrument cluster, in portrait format on the central display in the centre console and in the optional head-up display.

An AMG TRACK PACE data logger for use on racetracks is standard on the GLC 63 and optional for the GLC 43 which records more than 80 vehicle-specific data 10 times per second such as speed, acceleration, steering angle and brake pedal operation.

Prices have yet to be announced but are likely to be slightly more than the ‘standard’ Mercedes-AMG GLC, which ranges from around £70,000 for the GLC 43 to £100,000 for the GLC 63. Deliveries are expected to start early in 2024.

Prices correct as of 27/09/2023 and are subject to change.
