Introducing the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Plug-in Hybrid
Just like its smaller sibling, the C-Class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon and Estate are available as plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
Being one of the most iconic models in Mercedes-Benz history, the E-Class Plug-in Hybrid delivers the expected level of fine luxury and refinement, whilst being able to offer an all-electric drive.
Producing zero emissions in all-electric mode, the E Class PHEV models are not only better for the environment, but are also better on the pocket; with drastically reduced fuel consumption.
Range and Performance
As with all plug-in hybrid vehicles, the electric motor is combined with an internal combustion engine. With the E-Class Saloon there is the option of either a petrol (E 300 e) or diesel (E 300 de) engine, whereas the Estate is only available with a diesel engine so is badged E 300 de.
Both the petrol and diesel engines are 2.0-litre units and, when they are combined with the electric motor, they deliver a total power output of 316bhp and 302bhp respectively.
Fuel consumption is up to an impressive 235mpg and the PHEV models can achieve an all-electric range of up to 34 miles, before needing to be recharged.
Charging
Eventually the E-Class Plug-in Hybrid models will need their batteries recharging. This is not a difficult task and is actually rather convenient, considering it can be done at home.
Plugging-in to a domestic 3-pin plug socket will see the vehicles reach a full charge, from 10 percent capacity, in around five hours. However, using a dedicated wall box can dramatically reduce charging times to under two hours.
Alternatively, if you are away from home or do not have access to home charging, there are thousands of public charging points located around the UK in car parks, motorway service stations, or even at the side of the road.
