Renowned for their go-kart handling and easily recognisable due to their iconic looks, the MINI range has expanded over the years to include larger vehicles to meet the growing demands for family vehicles.

MINI are continuing to meet the evolving demands and have now introduced two models to the hybrid and electric MINI family; the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid and the MINI Electric.

Both cars have the ability to drive in all-electric mode, producing zero tailpipe emissions, and require plugging-in to recharge the battery powering the electric motor.

What are the different types of hybrid and electric vehicles?

Mild hybrid systems assist the ICE and improve fuel economy by harvesting and storing energy that is normally lost when braking.

HEVs combine an ICE with an electric motor and battery pack that is charged through regenerative braking to offer all-electric driving for short distances.

A PHEV uses a similar setup to a HEV, but has a much larger battery pack to offer a more substantial all-electric range. You will need to plug in to fully recharge.

BEVs only use an electric motor and battery pack for power, producing zero tailpipe emissions and impressive all-electric ranges. There is no combustion engine, so you will need to plug in to recharge.

MINI Electric

It looks just like a MINI and it drives just like a MINI but there is no petrol or diesel engine in sight, the MINI Electric is 100 percent electric but retains its go-kart handling and iconic looks.

Immediate oomph from the instant torque adds to the fun driving experience, whilst the impressive all-electric range of up to 145 miles ensures you can easily reach your destination.

Running low on battery power? Simply plug-in the MINI Electric and charge to 80 percent of battery capacity in as little as 20 minutes.

MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid

The MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid is the best of both worlds. If you are not quite ready to switch to the all-electric MINI Electric, then the combination of a conventional petrol engine with an electric motor and battery in the Countryman PHEV will provide the perfect stepping stone from the present to the future.

Drive up to 29 miles in pure electric mode, producing zero tailpipe emissions, or for longer journeys the petrol engine will engage and work in conjunction with the electric motor to deliver a smooth and powerful hybrid driving experience.

Like the MINI Electric, the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid will need plugging-in to charge the battery. In under three hours the battery can be charged to 80 percent of its capacity.
