New Hybrid MINI Countryman: What You Need to Know

06th Jul 2017

Electric vehicles don't have to be boring...

The MINI Cooper S ALL4 PHEV Countryman Auto - to give its full name, is the latest Countryman to feature within the MINI range. Unlike many modern hybrid vehicles, this electric MINI Cooper aims to keep the performance and fun associated with the MINI brand, proving that the future needn't be dull!

A 224hp, 1.5-litre 3cylinder petrol engine - complete with 87hp electric motor (which is included in the 224hp), ensures this new hybrid version has more than enough power and performance. Being the S model, it's hardly surprising MINI hasn't strayed from its typical functionality, as this SUV can get to 60mph in just 6.8 seconds, with help form a slick six-speed automatic gearbox.

Being a MINI, this hybrid version still keeps hold of its fun to drive characteristics, despite its electric input. The new hybrid also keeps the funky MINI design, as well as a few bold yellow details, signifying its hybrid image. This includes yellow detailing on the charge point, yellow badging, while the centre console and door inserts also hinder that stylish glow of yellow, not forgetting the dominating bright yellow toggle engine start button too.

The MINI Cooper S All4 PHEV Countryman Auto has 3 Driving Modes:

  • Auto EDRIVE Mode - This automatically uses the best combination of the electric motor and petrol engine to produce an efficient outcome.
  • Max EDRIVE Mode - This mode allows for fully electric driving - meaning no fuel is used at all. Up to 26 miles is possible, just on the electric motor.
  • Save Battery Mode - This is a mode whereby the battery power is saved, whilst the petrol engine charges the electric motor.

The MINI Cooper hybrid SUV loses none of its practicality either, with plenty of space in the cabin and a decent sized boot. It's also typically premium feeling - with an array of quality sot-touch materials within the cabin, along with funky dials, trademark toggle switches and a generous amount of standard kit including: DAB, Bluetooth, sat-nav, air-conditioning, cruise control and alloy wheels.

A fine selection of optional extras are available for the hybrid MINI, such as a reversing camera, Harman Kardon stereo and even a head-up display can also be added, along with a number of 'packs', which is also complimented by a number of unique customisation options. Well it wouldn't be a MINI without them!
