Introducing the Audi A5 Saloon

Audi A5 Saloon Rear Angle in Grey

The Audi A5 name is nothing new, but in Saloon format, it is. This Audi A5 Saloon also replaces the Audi A4 Saloon, whilst its sibling, the Audi A5 Avant, replaces the A4 Avant.

Therefore, you will probably think it does look very A4-sized, and that is because it is. The naming simply denotes Audi electric cars, which use even numbers (apart from the Audi Q8), against combustion-engined cars, which use odd numbers.

With this A5 Saloon, you still get a handsome and sophisticated vehicle, with typically sleek Audi styling, complemented by a cutting-edge digital interior, and excellent refinement.

Design and Practicality

Swoopier, sleeker, and typically sophisticated, the new A5 Saloon is business as usual in terms of Audi design, showcasing a typically handsome overall shape, with smart details and crisp, clean lines.

A new, revised grille, which features a honeycomb effect, is joined by redesigned air vents. The headlights have also had a modern reshaping to keep the overall design neat and tidy.

Being a saloon, there is the added practicality of four doors, whilst the boot offers 445 litres of space, which drops to 417 litres when selecting Quattro all-wheel drive versions, due to the extra space needed for the system.

Technology and Safety

Technology and safety are first class, as you would expect from a handsome Audi Saloon. Therefore, the A5 Saloon offers a crisp and clean digital aura, with an 11.9-inch 'Virtual Cockpit', displaying all your important driving information.

This is joined by a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, which is ultra-fast and is beautifully ergonomic, being easy to switch between menus and find different configurations to get the A5 Saloon exactly how you want it. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, too.

Being a modern Audi, the safety features are excellent with parking assistance, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, and lane departure warnings all available within the range.

Engines and Performance

Multiple engines are available with the Audi A5 Saloon. A 2.0-litre TFSI petrol with 150bhp or 204bhp is joined by a 2.0-litre TDI with 204bhp. These are joined by a plug-in hybrid 2.0-litre TFSI petrol.

The petrol models are front wheel drive, whilst there is a Quattro all-wheel drive version available in the diesel. It is worth noting that the plug-in hybrid version is also fitted with Quattro all-wheel drive.

Performance is decent, with all cars featuring a slick 7-speed automatic transmission, with 0 to 62mph taking as little as 5.9 seconds in the plug-in hybrid, 6.9 seconds in the Quatto diesel, or circa 7.7 seconds in the front-wheel drive petrol and diesel versions. The 150bhp petrol takes 9.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62mph.
