Introducing the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron
The Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron is fully-electric, and features the unmistakable dimensions of a conventional SUV - but with the dynamic silhouette of a sporty coupé.
The Sportback is a variation of the regular Audi Q8 e-tron, which is presented with a more traditional SUV shape, whereas the Sportback has been designed to offer more visual flair.
The 'e-tron' moniker has been a mainstay in the UK for several years, representing the brand's electric models. There are now multiple Audi e-tron models available in the Audi range, including the Q8 Sportback e-tron we are having a look at here.
Design and Practicality
The design of the Q8 Sportback e-tron takes the foundation of the regular Audi Q8 e-tron and modifies it to feature a coupé-like sloping roofline for a sleeker appearance.
This gives buyers the option of a more conventional SUV shape or something a little bit different.
Either way, both SUVs are brilliantly practical and the Q8 Sportback e-tron offers plenty of interior space along with a large 528-litre boot.
Since the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron is fully-electric, there is also a further 62 litres of space under the bonnet, since a traditional engine is not occupying that space instead. This enhances the Q8 Sportback e-tron's practicality even further.
Technology and Safety
Being fully-electric, the technology is clear from the get-go with the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron offering refined levels of performance with the uncanny vibe the electric motor gives, boosted by a decent range of up to 343 miles.
The cabin is typical high quality Audi too, with a digital technology showcase presented via two central touchscreens and the smart and cutting-edge Audi Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster.
Safety is also impressive, with lots of driver assistance features in the range, including:
- 360-degree parking camera
- Head-up display
- Audi pre sense
- Blind-spot monitor
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Day and Night rear view mirror
Engines and Performance
Being fully-electric, the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron makes use of an electric motor and battery rather than a conventional internal combustion engine.
There are two battery options to choose from, comprising an 89kWh version, or a larger 106kWh unit.
The former 89kWh version offers a potent 335bhp, which gives a 0 to 62mph time of just 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 124mph. This is complemented by a range of up to 290 miles.
Offering more power with 402bhp is the 106kWh version, which also increases the range to 343 miles, along with being quicker too, with 0 to 62mph taking just 5.6 seconds.
Charging
Charging the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron depends on the set-up you are using.
But generally, an overnight charge using an 11kW AC charger will take between 9 hours and 15 minutes (for the 89kWh version) or up to 11 hours and 30 minuted for the 106kWh version.
These drop to 28 minutes and 31 minutes respectively when using a 150kW DC rapid charger.
