Introducing the Audi RS 4 Avant

When it comes to fast estates, the Audi RS 4 Avant is a textbook answer.

First introduced in 1999, the Audi RS 4 Avant has pushed the envelope of what is possible from a performance estate car.

This latest evolution is known as the B9, and follows on from a legendary back catalogue of previous Audi Avant models, and manages to use the same impressive formula, just enhanced even further with RS dynamic flair, ensuring it still sits proudly at the top of the Audi A4 model range.

Design and Practicality

The Audi RS 4 Avant is yet another signature Audi RS model that blends fine sophistication with presence, drama and of course out-and-out performance. But by being an Avant, practicality is ultra impressive too.

Taking the fine foundation set by Audi, this RS 4 Avant showcases a wider track and more dynamic detailing to give the car a real sense of presence. It does not go over the top however, it merely uses the famous Avant silhouette and perfectly crafts a car that offers incredible practicality, with breathtaking performance to match its enhanced looks.

Interior space is decent, and there is plenty of space to get comfortable with ease. Then there is the boot, which offers an incredible 495 litres of space, which increases even further to a capacious 1,500 litres if you fold the rear seats.

Technology and Safety

Sitting at the top of the Audi A4 range, the commanding RS 4 Avant takes the already excellent interior foundations set by the standard car and takes it to the next level, in typical Audi RS fashion.

The familiar Audi virtual cockpit allows you to customise what you see, and is of course accompanied by a crisp and clear central infotainment set-up. The interior also showcases honeycomb leather, gloss black detailing and the RS favourite of alcantara, for that racing inspired vibe.

Connectivity like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, whilst the RS 4 Avant is also loaded with safety tech, with the below features being available in the range:

  • Cruise control, optional adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Audi Pre Sense with auto emergency braking
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Optional carbon ceramic brakes

Engines and Performance

Beneath the bonnet of an RS 4 Avant sits a 2.9-litre, 444bhp, bi-turbo V6 petrol engine. This ensures the RS 4 Avant can go from 0 to 62mph in just 4.1 seconds, with a top speed limited to 155mph, or 174mph on Competition versions.

The rapid acceleration is helped by the slick and seamless 8-speed automatic transmission, which you take control of manually via paddles behind the steering wheel, if the mood suits.

And with the RS 4 Avant being ultra practical, it is strengthened further by its clever Quattro all-wheel drive system, meaning the RS 4 Avant can properly utilise all of its power and ability, no matter the weather conditions.

If you are after a hugely practical estate car, that also happens to be incredibly fast and full of impressive state-of-the-art technology, the Audi RS 4 Avant continues to be a textbook choice.
