Discover an approved used Q3 through Stratstone
The Audi Q3 is a medium-sized family SUV that comes with a spacious interior and a host of advanced technologies.
Before the arrival of the Q2 in 2017, the Q3 was the smallest SUV available in Audi's range of cars. It now occupies a good middle ground between the brand's entry-level SUV and the larger Q5 and Q7 models.
There is certainly plenty to like about the Q3, as we have highlighted below:
- Handsome exterior looks
- Spacious interior
- Premium finish throughout
- Efficient range of engines
- Big boot
Engines and Driving Experience
The Q3 is a mature and sophisticated family SUV to look at, which can also be said for the driving experience. A quiet cabin is a welcome trait on longer journeys, and the suspension soaks up imperfections in the road effortlessly.
A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard fit on most models, but it is well worth seeking out an example with the 7-speed S tronic automatic since it is smooth and easier to drive.
Petrol
- 35 TFSI: 1.5-litre producing 148bhp (0 to 62mph in 9.5 seconds and up to 44.1mpg)
- 40 TFSI: 2.0-litre producing 187bhp (0 to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and up to 37.2mpg)
- 45 TFSI: 2.0-litre producing 242bhp (0 to 62mph in 5.8 seconds and up to 32.8mpg)
Diesel
- 35 TDI: 2.0-litre producing 147bhp (0 to 62mph in 9.4 seconds and up to 56.5mpg)
- 40 TDI: 2.0-litre producing 197bhp (0 to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and up to 46.3mpg)
Practicality and Running Costs
Despite being one of the brand's smaller SUVs, the Q3 is spacious inside, offering plenty of head and kneeroom for passengers in the front and back.
The raised ride height and wide opening rear doors come in handy if you have young children. Speaking of which, there are three ISOFIX anchor points in the Q3: two in the back and one in the front passenger seat.
Thanks to the rear sliding seats, there is up to 675 litres of boot space on offer inside the Q3; more than enough for active families or weekly food shops. Fold the rear seats down and there is a substantial 1,525 litres of space to play with.
Your annual premiums will depend on the specification and engine you go for. Lower-spec models start from insurance group 23 (out of 50), while sportier examples sit in the late 30s/early 40s. However, affordable servicing is available through your local Stratstone Audi dealership, which should help offset any higher premiums.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Typical of Audi, the Q3's interior is a classy affair, with premium materials featuring throughout. The brand's Virtual Cockpit is a digital instrument cluster that really gives the interior an upmarket feeling. In addition, the infotainment screen is beautifully incorporated into the centre console.
The infotainment system, which gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, features as standard on all models. Entry-level Technik cars come with 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth seats and LED headlights.
Next up is the Sport, which gets 18-inch alloy wheels, exterior enhancements and front sports seats. S line models are popular because they add 19-inch wheels, rear privacy glass, sports suspension and half-leather upholstery.
The flagship Vorsprung benefits from 20-inch wheels, a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera.
Safety features and driver aids available include:
- Pre sense collision avoidance system
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Lane departure warning
- Rain sensing wipers
- Light-sensing headlights
Is the Audi Q3 right for me?
Audi themselves describe the Q3 as a 'true all-rounder', meaning that if you want a practical family SUV that is comfortable, practical and surprisingly brisk, then you cannot go wrong with one. The upmarket finish is simply the icing on the cake.
Premium SUVs of this size are not in short supply, so it is worth shopping around to see which one best suits you. The BMW X1 is another fine all-rounder and places more emphasis on the driving experience. If you want a quality family SUV, but have a more restrained budget, then we would recommend having a look at the Ford Kuga.
