Audi makes an entire range of electric cars, signified by their 'e-tron' names, accompanied by their usual letter and number additions, to help buyers understand their size or performance character.

A used Audi Q8 e-tron sits as the flagship standard all-electric SUV in the range, only outdone by the slightly more performance focused SQ8 e-tron.

The Q8 e-tron sits above the Q4 e-tron and Q6 e-tron models in terms of size, with the Q8 helping demonstrate its larger size. Highlights of a used Audi Q8 e-tron are listed below:

  • Typical excellent Audi refinement
  • Loaded with technology
  • Decent practicality
  • Quick
  • Subtle

Range and Performance

Being fully-electric, there is no engine in the Audi Q8 e-tron, instead it gets electric motors and battery set-up, available with two power options.

There is an entry-level '50' and an enhanced '55'. The former produces 335bhp via its twin electric motors for a 0 to 62mph time of 6.0-seconds, which is hugely impressive for a 'standard' electric SUV.

The '55' model produces 402bhp, meaning the 0 to 62mph time drops a little, to 5.6 seconds.

Although this is quick, it is not as quick as a Tesla Model Y, which takes just 4.8 seconds to do the 0 to 62mph sprint.

However, with Quattro all-wheel drive, and typical Audi refinement, the Q8 e-tron is a fine car to drive.

Practicality and Running Costs

Being a large SUV, signified by the Q8 name, a used e-tron version provides plenty of practicality, with space for five people to get comfortable with ease.

There is a big boot too, with 569 litres of space, which beats a BMW iX (500 litres) and Jaguar I-PACE (557 litres).

Drop the rear seats in the Audi Q8 e-tron and you get a massive 1,637 litres of space to play with.

As for running costs, being electric, the Q8 e-tron should be easier to run than its petrol Q8 sibling. Although, tyres and the like will be around the same.

Servicing can be taken care of at your preferred Stratstone Audi retailer.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Interior of Audi Q8 e-tron

Interior quality of a used Audi Q8 e-tron is quite simply excellent. It takes the superb Audi Virtual Cockpit and enhances on it perfectly, without going over the top or cheapening the digital aspect.

The digital instrument cluster is cocooned where you would expect it to be, and it has not been merged with the infotainment screen like many modern SUVs.

Furthermore, there is an additional screen under the infotainment screen - located in the centre of the dashboard, that shows the air conditioning settings. Three screens may seem too many, but Audi with their design has managed to make it work, and make the cabin feel properly special.

Safety kit is excellent, along with the technology on offer, with cruise control, reverse camera, parking sensors all coming standard, whilst if you opt for higher spec versions, you will find adaptive cruise control and cross-traffic alert to name a few.

Is the Audi Q8 e-tron right for me?

If you are after a used fully-electric SUV that looks classy, but does not go over the top in its design, an Audi Q8 e-tron could well be ideal for you.

It mirrors its petrol Q8 sibling, which will delight those who do not want to stand out, like some electric cars do, but the Audi class is there with a design that does not need to scream.

Tesla produces some fine electric SUVs, but could be too clinical for some. The BMW iX does not look as classy when parked next to this handsome Audi, whilst a Mercedes EQC's interior tries too hard, and is a little iPad-like.
