With Audi making some of its S (Sport) models diesel, it was quite controversial to some, but in SUV body style, it is quite a logical decision.

Engines and Driving Experience
The SQ5's engine is a 3.0-litre diesel unit producing 336bhp. This gives the SQ5 a nice amount of power without being over the top, resulting in a 0 to 62mph time of 5.1 seconds, which is rather quick for a large practical SUV; it is quick in general.
A high driving position ensures visibility is great, and the suspension has the right amount of firmness, without thinking you would have been better off in a softer, standard Q5.
Having Audi's iconic Quattro all-wheel drive system as standard means there is plenty of grip, and the SQ5 is capable when cornering. If you are after a dynamic SUV that still keeps things relatively comfortable and smooth, the SQ5 will not disappoint.
Practicality and Running Costs
The beauty about the SQ5 being an SUV is that you benefit from all the practicality benefits an SUV brings. And to make things even more attractive, by being a diesel, fuel economy is pretty decent too, considering the SQ5's sporty nature.
Space inside a used SQ5 is excellent, and it should be easy for all the family to get comfortable. And, you will have more than enough space for their things too, thanks to 510-litre boot, which increases 1,000 litres when you lower the rear seats, which is more than handy.
It means, with the seats up, you have more space (10 litres) than a used Porsche Macan, whilst a used BMW X3 offers more with 550 litres.
With fuel economy of the SQ5 being around the 35mpg mark, it is pretty good for a large SUV. Running costs will be a little more than a standard used Q5, and can be completed at your preferred Stratstone Audi retailer.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Being an Audi, the SQ5's interior makes for a fine place to spend time. Everything feels properly refined, and of high quality, with the right balance of digital presented in a slick and clean way.
The digital instrument cluster replaces a more traditional analogue set-up, whilst an infotainment screen on the top centre of the dashboard accompanies it too.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, meaning it is a doddle to get connected and up and running with ease, whilst safety kit is also decent, with lane-keeping assist, emergency braking and cruise control all standard. Some used models will also feature enhanced technology packages, so worth keeping a look-out for them if you want even more tech and safety features.
Is the Audi SQ5 right for me?
In a world where the SUV is rather popular, and there is plenty of choice, if you want to have your cake and eat it, then the Audi SQ5 ticks a lot of boxes.
Practicality, refinement, style, technology and pace, whilst all being reasonable to run, make it an attractive used SUV.
If you want an even more dynamic SUV, then a BMW X3 M Competition raises the bar, but it will feel stiffer and require more upkeep. You could settle for more badge kudos with a Porsche Macan, or if you wanted even more digital technology on the inside, a used Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 could be the one for you.
