Porsche and Motorsport

What is there to say about the iconic Porsche 911, that has not already been said. The legendary silhouette continues to push the envelope and each new car or special edition offers something unique, which has seen multiple models of the Porsche 911 become some of the most sought-after cars on the planet.

The connection with Porsche and motorsport has certainly enhanced the appeal, especially if the connection is with the 24 Hours of Le Mans - the most prestigious motor race in the world. Porsche are the most successful manufacturer at Le Mans, winning the race an impressive 19 times, with three British drivers taking victory over the years, including Richard Attwood, Derek Bell MBE (pictured below with a Porsche 911 Carerra 4 GTS British Legends Edition in Sapphire Blue, along with his Le Mans winning Porsche 956 racing car) and Nick Tandy.

Porsche therefore decided to create a special edition of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS, which celebrates these legendary drivers, and the colour schemes adorned on their legendary racing cars.

Three Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS British Legends Editions were born.

Porsche 911 Carerra 4 GTS British Legends Edition

Derek Bell

This special edition variant of the Porsche 911 uses the superb 911 Carrera 4 GTS (991) as the basis. This means the car houses a glorious 3.0-litre flat-six engine producing 444bhp, with power sent to the road via an assured all-wheel drive system (hence Carrera 4). This made this particular 911 the fastest 911 Carrera in the range upon launch in 2017, achieving 0 to 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, with 'Launch Control' activated.

In celebration of racing drivers and of course the fact that the car is a Porsche 911, it was never going to disappoint in terms of performance either. Therefore, the car is further complemented by a Sport PASM chassis, which includes Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) to give this 911 handling which is second-to-none and pin sharp to say the least, as this also lowers the car 10mm. To give this 911 racing characteristics on which it celebrates, the car also comes with a Sport Chrono Package.

What makes the British Legends Edition stand out from a regular Carrera 4S? Three versions are available.

British Legends Edition Guards Red

Attwood

In 1970 Richard Attwood drove car number 23, the hugely iconic Porsche 917 with 'Porsche Salzburg' red and white livery (pictured above left) to victory. Therefore, a Guards Red version of this special 911 pays homage to the 917 and racing driver Richard Attwood with a subtle white graphic along the lower side of the vehicle, featuring the number 23, with white detailing emulating the legendary racing car. Attwood's signature and union jack flag motif complete the subtle details on the car (pictured above right).

British Legends Edition Sapphire Blue

Bell

Derek Bell is the most successful British racing driver ever at Le Mans with five wins. But it was car number 1 which he drove to victory in 1982; a Porsche 956. This legendary racer featured a well-known 'Rothmans' livery (pictured right in the first photo of this blog) featuring blue, white, red and gold, and so this British Legends Edition features those colours too. Presented on a Sapphire Blue Metallic body with a subtle side decal featuring white, red and gold detailing, along with the number 1, and of course Derek Bell's signature on the car. Finally, a subtle union jack next to the signature completes the key features.

British Legends Edition Carrera White

Tandy

Nick Tandy won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015. His homage 911 celebrates the 'DMG MORI' white Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1. Therefore, a Carrera White 911 celebrates this car, complete with black and grey side decal with number 19, along with Nick's signature and subtle union jack too.
