Design and Practicality
Iconic design since its birth in the 1970s, each new generation of the BMW 5 Series evolves the legend further, accumulating perfectly to where the 5 Series sits today, as a sharp silhouette, complemented by fine details.
The iconic kidney grilles are now one-piece, yet make no mistake in identifying this as a BMW. Complemented further by a enhanced front apron with larger air inlets, joined by simplification of the car's contours, the BMW 5 Series blends sharp details with elegance for the perfect design contrast.
Available in the classic Saloon bodystyle as well as an equally handsome Touring bodystyle, for enhanced practicality. You will not struggle fitting occupants comfortably, with all their belongings, in either the 5 Series Saloon or Touring.
Technology and Safety
The Ultimate Driving Machine continues to set the standard for technology, safety and of course comfort - this is a 5 Series after all.
BMW Live Cockpit Professional ensures every journey is brought to life thanks to the 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display, complemented by a central 12.3-inch touchscreen display too, featuring the car's infotainment and various settings - which are all configurable to each driver's exact requirements. "Hey BMW" voice commands ensure you can also speak commands to your 5 Series.
Safety is taken care of too, with Parking Assistant to make parking easier and safer, along with Driving Assistant Professional - including Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control and Automatic Speed Limit Assist, plus much more.
Engines and Performance
Both petrol and diesel engines are available within the range, including a plug-in hybrid version - enabling the possibility for pure electric driving.
In petrol guise, a 520i with 184bhp is available, ensuring 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds, with up to a 45mpg economy possible. At the opposite end of the petrol range is the hugely powerful 522bhp M550i xDrive, with 0 to 62mph possible in just 3.8 seconds - with a combined economy of up to 25mpg.
Diesel versions offer enhanced economy with over 50mpg possible from the 520d. The most efficient option is the 530e Plug-In Hybrid. Thanks to electric power, the same engine is used from the petrol 520i, however performance is increased with 0 to 62mph taking just 5.9 seconds, with up to 201mpg possible.
