Discover an approved used XF through Stratstone
First launched in 2007, the Jaguar XF debuted as a smart executive car with typical Jaguar style, luxury and comfort. It was replaced with a second generation model in 2015, further enhancing its overall appeal. We will take a look at this second generation model in more detail below, which also received a facelift in 2020, with tweaked looks and a digital interior.
The Jaguar XF makes a nice alternative to the seemingly dominant German executive saloons, and is also available in a Sportbrake (Estate), as well as offering:
- Fine Jaguar style
- A great driving experience
- Decent performance and economy
- Premium features and comfort

Engines and Driving Experience
Petrol and diesel engine choice is available with the Jaguar XF, which consists of:
- A 2.0-litre 201bhp diesel, badged D200
- A 2.0-litre 246bhp petrol, badged P250
- A 3.0-litre V6 295bhp diesel, badged S
- A 2.0-litre 296bhp petrol, badged P300
- A 3.0-litre V6 374bhp petrol, badged S
All engines come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with some models offering four-wheel drive instead of the usual rear-wheel drive set-up.
The entry-level diesel is not rapid, but it will be quick enough to keep up with modern traffic, taking 7.6 seconds to do the 0 to 62mph sprint. Four-wheel drive diesel engines take 7.8 seconds to get from 0 to 62mph due the increased weight.
The petrol engines are quicker, with the P250 taking 6.9 seconds to go from 0 to 62mph, whilst the P300 takes just 6.1 seconds. The diesel V6 S takes 6.2 seconds, whilst the V6 petrol is the quickest XF at 5.1 seconds.
To drive, the XF is more than a match for the renown BMW 5 Series, and therefore offers a great blend of comfort, sharp driving dynamics and impressive handling.
Practicality and Running Costs
Overall, the Jaguar XF is a comfortable and roomy executive car that can accommodate five people easily enough, although as with most five-seater cars, the rear middle seat will only suit smaller adults, or children on longer journeys.
There is a decent 459 litres of boot space too, but you do get an extra 70 litres in a BMW 5 Series. The XF Sportbrake (Estate) features that bit more space and a 565-litre boot.
As for running costs, diesel models can return excellent economy, with up to 57mpg possible, whilst even the most powerful petrol can muster almost 33mpg.
Tax and insurance will vary on spec, but the XF is pretty good for the calibre of car you are getting. Servicing is also going to mirror engine size and spec, and can be carried out at any Stratstone Jaguar dealer for more specialist care.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Interior quality of the Jaguar XF is full of premium and luxury touches, especially if you opt for a 2017 car onwards, as you will take advantage of the updated Pivi Pro digital infotainment screen and a 12.3 inch fully-digital instrument cluster.
That said, older cars still feel premium, and analogue dials will not be a problem for many. Elsewhere, standard kit is good, especially on later cars with leather, sat nav, Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming standard.
As for safety, the Jaguar XF received a full five-star Euro NCAP crash test score, this is thanks to a number of features which include:
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Lane-departure warning
- Adaptive cruise control
- All-Surface Progress Control
- Multiple airbags
Is the Jaguar XF right for me?
If you are in the market for a premium executive saloon (or estate) then the Jaguar XF is well worth a look.
In a market full of German favourites, such as the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6, it more than holds its own in the driving experience and tech aspects.
It may not be as practical, but it certainly isn't worth overlooking, especially if you want something a little different.
