Introducing the new smart #5
smart have unveiled their first premium mid-size SUV. Designed to be versatile with features that allow great performance on and off-road, the #5 is a great addition to smart’s range.
Joining the #1 and #3 in the manufacturer’s all-electric vehicle line up, the #5 can reach new levels of range and charging speed, making it an efficient car for daily use.
Following the brand’s motto ‘Love, pure and unexpected’, smart made sure to showcase premium elements to the exterior and interior design, and create an unique ambiance for drivers and passengers.
Design and Practicality
Keeping characteristic design elements that make smart cars recognisable everywhere, the frameless doors, panoramic halo roof and short rear and front overhangs are showcased in this model.
The contemporary styling is combined with a rugged and boxy exterior that expresses the dual functionality of this vehicle, that was created to perform well on and off-road.
Looking inside, you will find a sophisticated cabin that was built with high-quality materials to create a premium ambiance. Leather seats, electric sun shields, heating in the front and rear end of the vehicle, and expandable legroom.
The #5 is equipped with 34 storage compartments, including a 72-litre frunk (a boot-like storage under the bonnet), and a spacious boot that can hold up to 1,530 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Technology and Safety
It is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including two 13-inch infotainment screens and a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display, both of which were designed to be interactive and intuitive to use.
Aiming at facilitating connectivity to smartphones, the infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pre-installed, as well as a built-in sat-nav.
Featuring a voice assistant powered by AI, the driver will be able to control key functions, making phone calls and text messages, turn on and off music, climate control, internet functions, among other features that allow voice control.
Range and Performance
Built for daily use and for adventurous drivers, the #5 is available with a number of powertrains to suit differing lifestyles and preferences.
Performance seekers will find the BRABUS variant the most appealing, coming equipped with an electric motor that produces a power output of 637bhp. This allows a 0 to 62mph sprint in less than 3 seconds from resting. It produces an impressive 400lb ft of torque, which provides the #5 with plenty of punch.
If you prefer something more suited to every day, there is a lower-power dual-motor option with an output of 549bhp, as well as two single-motor versions, that produce an output of 335bhp and 358bhp respectively.
When it comes to range, the smart #5 can achieve up to 366miles WLTP, which is more than enough for daily errands as well as longer forays further from home.
Charging
Charging your smart #5 is quick and easy. Equipped with a 100kWh battery that features a super-charging function, you will be able to charge your vehicle from 10 to 80 percent in only 18 minutes.
There is also the option to recharge your smart #5 from home using a dedicated wallbox or even a standard domestic three-pin plug socket. As expected, the latter will take significantly longer, so is best reserved for times when you have a lot of downtime, while the former can easily ensure a full charge overnight setting you up perfectly for the next day.
