Introducing the Aston Martin DB12 S
The Aston Martin DB12 S is so much like the DB12 except this incarnation goes all the way up to eleven. Badged as a 'Super Tourer', the DB12 S takes the DNA of the existing DB12 and subtly reimagines it.
The DB12 S is definitely one more than the DB12, with plenty of upgraded nuances across style, powertrain, chassis, and equipment and how it builds on the performance and driving experience of the DB12. Designed for those who love a little extra in their driving experiences, the DB12 S adds subtle enhancements that help define its place in the Aston Martin family.
Discover below how the Aston Martin DB12 S is redefining the super tourer market and shaping the future of the driving experience.
Design and Practicality
To the untrained eye, the DB12 S' sleek, recognisable shape is pretty much the same as the DB12, but as you move closer, it starts to reveal a more toned-up self.
An F1-inspired front splitter offers more road-anchoring, delivering a bolstered-looking front end and generating downforce. Paired with a newly-engineered rear diffuser that improves aerodynamics and reduces lift, these upgrades reinforce the DB12 S' stability at higher speeds. Plus, to deliver more air to the engine, the DB12 S features a duo of bonnet louvres, not only functional but also adding to its overall aggressive design.
The DB12 S is as practical as a super tourer can be, with a 262-litre boot space, it's ideal for exploring the winding roads of Lake Garda thanks to its precise and dynamic driving experience, yet equally at home as a daily driver. If that's your preference.
Technology and Safety
One of the advancements of the DB12 S is the addition of lightweight details, such as carbon ceramic brakes, as standard. Not only do they increase its stopping power, but they're also larger in size and lighter, resulting in a saving of 27kg compared to the DB12's steel brakes.
When it comes to performance and technology, the DB12 S has made calibration changes to the DTX dampers, boosting roll and pitch control for strong, precise front-end performance. The rear E-Diff has also been tweaked to reduce understeer, improving all-around cornering, while a thicker rear anti-roll bar has been added to reduce body roll.
Inside the branding has been updated, with plenty of nods to its 'S' badge, plus you get a choice of monotone, duotone and tritone designs in various artisan-crafted fabric and leather options.
Engines and Performance
The DB12 S builds on the DB12's driving experience, sharpening its exceptional road-handling and driving precision. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has been tweaked, making it the most powerful front-engined car in its class.
Its output has increased by 19bhp to 690bhp, with torque at 590lb ft. Alongside a refined eight-speed automatic gearbox that has reduced shift speed, resulting in a 0 to 62mph time of 3.6 seconds; 0.1 secs faster than the standard DB12. And of course, the top speed stays at a cool 202mph.
The new quad tailpipe enhances the DB12 S's vocal character, delivering a bit of throaty output while reducing weight by 11.7kg compared to its siblings’ tailpipe design. It also ties in with the DB12 S's more bulked-out presence in both sound and style.
