About your Audi's safety features
Your Audi has a range of safety systems relying on sensors and safety mechanisms to ensure that your vehicle is working at its optimum performance while ensuring full protection for other road users and passengers.
We have created this simple guide to help you understand each of the common warning lights that may appear on your Audi. It is important that you know how to respond to each warning light to reduce any additional damage to your vehicle and to ensure that your vehicle is safe.
What the Audi warning light symbols mean
Red Lights
Seatbelt Reminder
Check if the driver’s seatbelt is fastened. This light will come on when the seatbelt has not been fastened properly or if there is a heave object placed on the driver’s seat.
Airbag System
This is a warning that your airbag system and belt tensioner could be faulty. Taking the vehicle to a manufacturer approved service centre as soon as the light come on is recommended.
Handbrake System
This light indicates that the parking brakes are applied at the time of movement. Release the parking brake by raising it slightly, pressing the knob and moving the lever down.
Bonnet
Check if the bonnet has been closed properly. This light will come on to indicate that the bonnet could still be slightly open. If the light remains on after you have checked it, get in touch with an approved service centre.
Yellow Lights
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
When this light is on, it is a warning that you should avoid sharp braking as much as possible.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Whether this light is flashing or it is just on completely, it requires attention. The flashing light signals that your vehicle is working on regulating the acceleration and braking forces, and you should decrease the speed. If it is a solid light, it is indicating that your DSC has failed, and you need to have it checked out.
Dynamic Stability Control Off (DSC)
Press the button until the 'DSC Off' indicator light comes on in the speedometer and 'Traction' is displayed in the revolution counter.
Runflat Indicator
The runflat indicator reports a pressure loss in a tyre. Reduce your speed and check your tyres at the earliest opportunity.
Steering System
This light indicates that the steering system could be faulty. It is recommended that you have it checked by an authorised service centre as soon as possible.
Engine Functions
This light indicates that the engine is malfunctioning due to increased engine load or increased exhaust emissions. Have your vehicle checked by your nearest Stratstone Service Centre.
Rear Fog Lights
This light shows that the rear fog lights are switched on.
Audi Pre Sense
Audi Pre Sense is a technology system for predictive safety which activates when a potential collision is expected. If this light appears, please ensure that the sensors are clear and not obstructed by dirt.
Lane Departure Warning
This sign lights up when the lane assist system is switched on and road markings cannot be detected.
Suspension Control
This indicates a fault with the vehicle’s suspension, which can cause problems with stability and handling.
Gearbox / Clutch
This light indicates a fault with the gearbox. If a red gearbox/clutch warning light appears, stop the vehicle when safe to do so and contact an authorised repairer.
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
A build up of soot can cause this sign to light up. Driving the vehicle for 10 to 30 minutes is recommended to end this problem.
