The BMW X2 is a different kind of BMW X Model. BMW themselves refer to it as a Sports Activity Coupé, but it can equally be categorised as a sporty SUV with high-riding coupé styling.
It is a car that offers all of the practicalities of a modern SUV - space, safety and off-road ability - but because it is not as large as some of the other BMW X models, its running costs are affordable for the masses.
Where the X2 stands apart from the competitors is with its driving dynamics. It is very rare to find a car with such a high driving position that drives like a premium hatchback, but that's what the X2 manages to achieve.
Exterior Design
Being a model from the BMW X range, SUV proportions are complemented by Coupé styling cues, meaning the X2 features sleeker lines than that of a regular SUV, and also equates to a sportier look and feel.
The front end is unmistakably BMW featuring the iconic dual kidney grills amongst some chiselled detailing. The lower roofline is obvious once you cast your eyes over the X2, which flows neatly into the rear.
A spoiler complements the roofline ensuring the sportier look is rounded out towards the rear of car, which is joined by a sharp rear bumper design, featuring a exhaust tip on each side to complete the dynamic look.
Technology and Safety
The BMW X2 offers various leather styles, along with Alcantara and cloth variations too - depending on specification. The dashboard is familiar BMW and features a blend of fine materials, along with clear instrument, dials and screens.
The infotainment is operated via the classic BMW iDrive controller for a quality feeling and easy to use experience.
Legroom and space is excellent too and there is even a large boot, despite the lower roofline coupe looks.
Engines and Performance
There are are a number of BMW X2 models available, offering varying levels of performance. It is available with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, depending on your needs.
In terms of engines, the entry-level 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit is joined by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, along with a 2.0-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre petrol offers 138bhp, whilst the 2.0-litre petrol offers the most power with 189bhp. The diesel variations offer power between 147-187bhp, dependent on specification.
Keen drivers will enjoy the power and delivery of the 2.0-litre petrol, whereas the diesel variants are more fuel efficient returning around 50mpg, which is excellent for an SUV of this size.
Finally, there is the powerful and economic plug-in hybrid model, which is the most efficient in the range, with a fuel consumption in the region of 160mpg (WLTP combined).
