Discover an approved used Range Rover Sport through Stratstone
First appearing in 2005, the Range Rover Sport perfectly expresses its name by being a dynamic and responsive SUV. Here we are looking at the second generation model, which came along in 2013, receiving a facelift in 2017.
Sitting under the iconic Range Rover, the Sport slots in above the Velar and Evoque. It is still a very big SUV, but Land Rover have ensured the Sport is a more agile and leaner offering than its larger sibling, for a more engaging and responsive feel. Being a product from the Land Rover family ensures that it will still perform incredibly well if you do decide to venture off road, too.
On first impressions, the Range Rover Sport offers:
- A dynamic and sporty feel
- Enhanced luxury and comfort
- Sporty engine options
- More aggressive sports styling
Engines and Driving Experience
Via clever construction, including the use of lightweight aluminium, the Range Rover Sport inspires greater driving confidence. This is further enhanced by a trick chassis and anti-roll system that keep the vehicle composed, resulting in a lot less lean when navigating bends. These features ensure the it is an impressive SUV to drive.
An entry-level 3.0-litre diesel (D250) kicks-off the engine range, with 296bhp, capable of 0 to 62mph in 8.5 seconds. Mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are much spicier, with 396 and 398bhp respectively. The P400 (mild hybrid) can complete 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds, whilst the P400e (PHEV) takes 6.7 seconds.
Those wanting the most performance from their Range Rover Sport will want to look at the SVR flagship model. This beastly SUV features a beefy 5.0-litre V8 engine producing 567bhp, thrusting this colossus from 0 to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Interior, Technology, and Safety
The interior features a commanding view of the road, and driver and passengers are greeted with fine build quality along with high-quality materials. There is also a striking digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen completing the impressive ambiance.
Being a luxury SUV, there is plenty of standard kit and technology too, with adaptive cruise control, heated front and rear seats, parking sensors, cameras and WiFi hotspot, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Although the Range Rover Sport has not been crash-tested by Euro NCAP, we cannot see it slipping up when it comes to safety, as it is closely related to the regular Range Rover. Especially with the following features available:
- Emergency braking
- Intelligent speed limiter
- Adaptive cruise control
- Traffic sign recognition
- Surround-view cameras
Is the Range Rover Sport right for me?
If you are in the market for a luxury SUV, which offers a dynamic driving experience that can match certain performance cars, then the Range Rover Sport should be on your list.
If you prefer a little more comfort and do not need the performance, a regular Range Rover is more practical and more luxurious, but will cost more.
The Porsche Cayenne should be considered if you want an even more focused driving experience, as Porsche have cleverly applied their sports car perfections to their sporty SUV. The interior and overall experience is outstanding too.
A BMW X5 is also a worthwhile rival, which again is more dynamic. However, if you prefer added comfort in your sporty SUV, the Range Rover Sport may well be the right choice for you after all.
