Introducing the Mercedes-Benz CLA
Returning for its third generation, the Mercedes-Benz CLA promises to be one of the most efficient, emotional, and intuitive Mercedes-Benz models ever.
The new CLA will do this by offering buyers enhanced space, better refinement, increased comfort, more intelligence, and higher efficiency when compared to its predecessor.
It is quite simply one of the most intelligent cars Mercedes-Benz has ever made, and is the first model in a heavily revised line-up of vehicles. It will also be the first time the CLA will be available as an electric vehicle, whilst also offering hybrid internal combustion versions, too.
Design and Practicality
The CLA's design is instantly recognisable, being a fine enhancement of the second generation. It does not feature an unnecessary redesign; it merely takes the familiar silhouette and enhances it.
Short overhangs, a long wheelbase and dynamic proportions ensure the new CLA is a sophisticated and handsome showcase, which is further increased with the Radiant 'Face' panel with illuminated Mercedes-Benz pattern - for the first time ever on a Mercedes-Benz production vehicle. This means 142 individually animated LED chrome-effect stars present the distinctive brand signature. Another neat touch is the Mercedes-Benz star headlights and taillights, which use 'MULTIBEAM' LEDs. A panoramic roof comes as standard too.
As for practicality, there is more than enough space for weekly chores and weekend getaways, thanks to a 405-litre boot. Shooting Brake variants possess a more practical estate bodystyle, offering 485 litres of boot space if you need the additional room, while all-electric variants also offer a 105-litre frunk for extra carrying capacity.
Technology and Safety
MB.OS is a new operating system for the all-new CLA, which uses chip-to-cloud architecture, meaning the car connects the powertrain, infotainment, and various other systems whilst staying up-to-date via over-the-air updates. Interactions are also more intuitive thanks to AI, where the car will respond emphatically to your voice.
The all-new CLA will also feature MBUK Superscreen, which will be available to specify in certain CLA models, giving an ultra-wide widescreen experience for the digital instruments and infotainment. This comprises a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 14-inch central display, and a 14-inch display for the front seat passenger.
MB.DRIVE ensures enhanced safety, with a new standard for state-of-the-art driving assistance and parking safety. This system essentially helps the new CLA prevent a multitude of accidents and makes driving easier, and of course safer.
Engines and Performance
For the first time ever, the Mercedes-Benz CLA is available with a fully-electric powertrain from launch, as well as full hybrid powertrains for a more familiar experience, for those who prefer internal combustion with a touch of electric technology.
Variants that recruit the full hybrid powertrain will be blessed with an efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor. Power output varies from 138bhp to 193bhp depending on your exact specification, with 0 to 62mph times ranging from 8.8 to 7.1 seconds. Each powertrain is super efficient in its own right, with over 50mpg being easily achievable in mixed driving conditions.
Then there is the new all-electric variant, which is the go-to for those looking for the cleanest means of driving. Packing a sizeable 85kWh battery, it offers increased power figures of 276bhp while also offers a zero emissions driving experience.
