The Mercedes-AMG C-Class is a series of high performance luxury vehicles that includes Saloon, Estate, Cabriolet and Coupé bodystyles. Based on the regular fourth-generation C-Class, the AMG model has been on sale since 2015, winning awards and loyal fans in almost equal measure.
It's powered by Mercedes' fabulous 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, and comes in two main variants:
- C 63 AMG: 469bhp - 0 to 62mph in 4.0s
- C 63 S AMG: 502bhp - 0 to 62mph in 3.9s
All bodystyles are available with either engine output, and power is delivered through the company's excellent 9-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels only. Clearly the Estate version is the most practical, although the Saloon is an entirely reasonable (and fast) family hauler. The Coupé and Cabriolet models will be suited to those who want the sportiest possible experience.
Running costs aren't cheap on a V8 Mercedes, and fuel economy is likely to be in the 20-25mpg range, or up to 30mpg on a steady motorway run. Servicing and maintenance will cost more than a run-of-the-mill diesel C-Class, and can be taken care of by Stratstone Mercedes-Benz retailers.
