About your MINI's safety features
Your MINI has a range of safety systems relying on sensors and safety mechanisms to ensure that your vehicle is working at its optimum performance while ensuring full protection for other road users and passengers.
We have created this simple guide to help you understand each of the common warning lights that may appear on your MINI. It is important that you know how to respond to each warning light to reduce any additional damage to your vehicle and to ensure that your vehicle is safe.
What the MINI warning light symbols mean
Red Lights
Seatbelt Reminder
This light indicates that the driver does not have the seatbelt fastened. It can also indicate that there is a heavy object in the front passenger seat.
Airbag System
There may be a fault in the belt tensioner or airbag system. Have the vehicle checked at an authorised MINI service centre as soon as possible.
Handbrake, brake system
Parking brake is engaged. Press the knob while slightly raising the parking brake slightly, and move the lever down.
Yellow Lights
Anti-lock brake system, ABS
This light indicates that the ABS may be faulty. Avoid abrupt braking and carefully bring the vehicle to a full stop. Have the vehicle checked at an authorised MINI service centre as soon as possible.
Dynamic stability control DSC
Flashing: Signals that your vehicle is stabilised due to the DSC regulating the acceleration and braking forces.Illuminating: Indicates that the DSC system has failed.
Dynamic stability control DSC deactivated or Dynamic traction control DTC activated
The system guarantees maximum forward traction with simultaneous limited driving stability for special road conditions.
Runflat Indicator, RPA
This light indicates that a pressure loss in a tyre was detected. Avoid abrupt braking and steering manoeuvres, and reduce your speed until bringing the vehicle to a full stop.
Steering system
Indicates when the steering system is faulty.
Engine Functions
Illuminating: Indicates that the exhaust system is faulty. It is safe for you to continue the journey, but the vehicle needs to be checked as soon as possible.Flashing: This is an indication that the engine could be malfunctioning. Get the vehicle checked at an authorised MINI service centre as soon as possible.
Rear Fog Lights
This light indicates that the rear fog lights are turned on.
Green Lights
Turn Indicator
This light shows that the turn indicator is switched on. If this light is flashing faster than usual, it indicates that there is a faulty light bulb.
Side Lights, low beam headlights
Side lights or low-beam headlights are switched on.
Rear Fog Lights
This light indicates that the rear fog lights have been switched on.
Cruise Control
When this light is on, it indicates that the cruise control is switched on and the speed set is maintained.
Blue Lights
High-beam headlights
High-beam headlights are switched on.
White Lights
General Lights
At least one Check Control message is displayed or saved.
