New BMW X3 Features

Explore the latest offers and finance deals on BMW X3, which is the brand’s sporty SUV that is available with plug-in hybrid technology, a variety of excellent safety features and driving aids.

The BMW X3 is a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) that has been designed to offer a superb driving experience for anyone.

Featuring the latest in semi-autonomous driving systems alongside intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive, the BMW X3 is pitched as a family SUV that can tackle almost any terrain.

Alongside a plethora of gadgets, the BMW X3 is available with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology, which will no doubt appeal to those looking for a more sustainable driving experience.

Available in a variety of different configurations, ranging from models geared towards comfort to models that prioritise performance, there is an X3 for every need and requirement. Learn more about the BMW X3 below and explore the latest new car deals.

Design and Practicality

BMW X3, front quarter, door open

Incorporated within the BMW X3's appearance are features from the brand's latest design language. The most notable change is the new BWW kidney grille, which combines with the Full LED headlights to give the X3 a strong presence on the road.

Full LED rear lights work in tandem with the free-form exhaust tips to give the X3 an everlasting rear impression. The newly designed choice of alloy wheels perfectly complement the X3's contemporary aesthetics.

As expected, the X3 is a wonderfully practical vehicle. There is 550 litres of boot space (1,600 litres with the rear seats down) in all models except for the PHEV, which provides 450 litres of luggage capacity in order to accommodate the batteries.

Depending on the model you select, the X3 can tow braked trailers up to 2,400kg in weight. The PHEV can tow up to 2,000kg, which is exceptional for any hybrid vehicle.

Technology and Safety

BMW X3, tan interior with 12-inch infotainment screen

Sitting within the redesigned centre console is a vibrant 12.3-inch infotainment display that works in tandem with the digital instrument cluster that occupies the driver's line-of-sight.

The infotainment system itself will never fail to impress thanks to the sheer number of functions on offer. Seamlessly choose your destination through the in-built satellite navigation before proceeding to change the vehicle's driving modes through the intuitive menus.

More impressive features can be found by navigating the vehicle's in-built applications, which include the likes of My BMW and BMW assistance. Personal assistant is another clever feature that allows you to access important information by simply asking the car what you want to know. For example, you could ask for your current location while driving, or for a weather report.

Safety features and driver aids available include:

  • Cruise control with braking function
  • Front collision warning
  • Reverse assistant
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
  • Hill Descent Control (HDC)

Engines and Performance

BMW X3, rear

All models benefit from 48V mild hybrid technology (MHEV), unless the xDrive30e is selected, in which case you get plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV).

The entry 2.0-litre engine found in the xDrive20i is a strong performer, producing 184bhp and 221lb ft. In addition, it will return up to 37.6mpg.

The same engine can be found in the aforementioned xDrive30e. However, it recruits PHEV technology to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. Drivers can expect fuel economy between 108 and 141mpg, while being able to travel up to 31 miles on battery power alone. The 0 to 62mph sprint takes just 6.1 seconds.

There are three diesel engines to choose from. The xDrive20d and xDrive30d are potent units that produce 190bhp and 286bhp respectively. They also return between 40 and 48mpg for good measure.

For maximum performance, there is the M40d model, which can achieve the 0 to 62mph dash in just 4.9 seconds. A potent petrol version also exists, and is called the X3 M40i.

Power is deployed through xDrive, which is an intelligent all-wheel drive system that works seamlessly with the standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
