Twenty-plus years into its life, the Cayenne remains one of the most sought-after SUVs on the market. The Porsche Cayenne Electric builds on that reputation. Positioned at the pinnacle of the Cayenne range alongside the Cayenne Turbo Electric, it delivers the performance, refinement and everyday capability that have long made the Cayenne one of the most revered vehicles in its class. Only now it is paired with a fully electric drivetrain.
The Cayenne Electric is a premium large SUV that fits in the Porsche line-up above the smaller Macan, that excels whether navigating city streets, covering long motorway miles or venturing beyond the tarmac. It is a vehicle that offers everything one would expect of a Porsche, and then some.
Design and Practicality
Porsche evolves the Cayenne's design rather than reinventing it, and the Electric is no exception. The frameless doors and animated rear light strip are the most visible signs of progress, but the overall effect is cohesive. This is a car that looks entirely at home in the present without having abandoned what made it recognisable in the first place. At the same time, the SUV body style provides an elevated driving position and commanding road presence.
Every detail, both inside and out, is carefully considered. The high-voltage battery is not simply bolted in — it is structurally integrated into the body, increasing the car's rigidity while simultaneously lowering the centre of gravity.
The electric drivetrain allows for revised cabin proportions, improving comfort for passengers and space for luggage. The Cayenne Electric offers 781 litres of boot capacity, expandable to 1,588 litres when the electrically adjustable four-way rear seat system is folded.
The cabin is designed around the driver, with a focused cockpit experience and the latest generation sports seats, while rear passengers benefit from a particularly spacious environment.
For those requiring further versatility, the optional electrically extendable towbar system supports a towing capacity of up to 3,000kg, or 3,500kg with the optional Off-Road package.
Technology and Safety
The Cayenne Electric introduces Porsche Digital Interaction, a new generation user interface that brings an intuitive and highly personal infotainment experience to the driver.
Customisable widgets, a modern visual design and seamless connectivity ensure the system is both sophisticated and straightforward to use. Porsche Connect further extends the digital experience by incorporating AI-supported Voice Pilot, a wide selection of streaming and gaming applications and remote services via the My Porsche app.
A Digital Key can be shared with up to seven people, allowing keyless access and ignition via a compatible smartphone.
The optional Augmented Reality Head-Up Display projects information that appears as an 87-inch screen positioned 10 metres ahead on the road. This effectively overlays navigation arrows directly onto the environment in front of the driver.
Adaptive cruise control reduces fatigue on longer journeys, while the optional Sport Chrono package is there for those who want to explore what the Cayenne Electric is truly capable of.
Range and Performance
The Cayenne Electric is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle, delivering all-wheel drive as standard. The front motor intelligently deactivates under partial load to maximise efficiency, while the more powerful rear motor underlines the Cayenne Electric's rear-biased performance DNA. With overboost enabled via Launch Control, the Cayenne Electric produces 435bhp and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 143mph.
When braking, the Cayenne Electric can recuperate energy at up to 804bhp — a figure Porsche directly compares to Formula E racing cars. Around 97 percent of all everyday braking is handled entirely electrically, with the conventional hydraulic system only intervening for harder stops.
Despite this performance capability, the Cayenne Electric is equally at home as a composed long-distance cruiser. Adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management delivers a supple, refined ride in everyday driving, while off-road programmes and a wading depth of 500mm ensure confident capability beyond the road. A combined WLTP range of up to 399 miles ensures that most journeys can be undertaken with complete confidence.
Charging
The Cayenne Electric is built around an 800-volt charging architecture, supporting DC fast charging at up to 390kW. This enables a charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 16 minutes, or the addition of around 202 miles of range in 10 minutes at a suitably equipped rapid charger.
The integrated Porsche Charging Planner takes the guesswork out of longer journeys, plotting charging stops along the route and pre-conditioning the battery before each one to keep total travel time to a minimum. At home, a Wallbox delivering up to 11kW makes overnight charging the natural choice — straightforward, routine and always ready for the morning.
The Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche to offer wireless inductive charging, available from the second half of 2026. This is a technology that, until now, has been associated primarily with smartphones. All the driver has to do is park over the floor plate, and charging begins automatically, with no cables required.
