Introducing the Audi RS 7 Sportback

First introduced in 2013, the Audi RS 7 Sportback is the range-topping performance version of the Audi A7.

A high-performance coupé with grand tourer design at heart sets the RS 7 Sportback apart from the crowd in typically refined and enhanced Audi style, and being the RS version also mean it has the presence to match its incredible performance.

It is closely related to the Audi RS 6 Avant. However, if the Avant is seemingly too conventional for you, the RS 7 offers a sleeker profile with all the textbook Audi RS performance.

Design and Practicality

In typical Audi RS fashion, the RS 7 manages to combine the sleek and refined aura of an Audi and mate it to the brute force the RS range showcases.

Flared wheel arches emphasise the car's dynamic and high performance character, whilst the RS-specific three-dimensional honeycomb grille features a crisp gloss black finish to further showcase its presence.

The curved rear end and complementing LED lights tie the whole shape up perfectly, giving a sophisticated yet purposeful aura.

And with a 535-litre boot, which can be increased to a capacious 1,390 litres, the RS 7 offers the perfect blend of practicality mated to immense style and performance.

Technology and Safety

The interior of the RS 7 Sportback is a superb place to spend time. It manages to combine a digital aura, complemented perfectly by an excellent choice of materials and presentation, giving subtle nods to racing, with Alcantara used throughout.

There is a fully-digital instrument cluster, with another equally impressive infotainment screen, along with a further digital presentation of the heating controls. But it does this in an ergonomic and polished presentation, giving you a sense of being behind the wheel of something special.

Audi voice-recognition technology means you can prompt the car to play a certain type of media, radio station or even program the sat-nav, removing the worry of getting the stylish touchscreens loaded with fingerprints.

Safety is also excellent, with the following features available:

  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Traffic monitor
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Eight airbags
  • Multiple driver assistance systems

Engines and Performance

The real reason you buy an RS 7 is due to the monumental performance; the practicality and refinement come as standard being an Audi.

Under the bonnet lies a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 621bhp, resulting in a 0 to 62mph time of just 3.4 seconds.

The beauty of the RS 7 is that it comes as standard with legendary all-wheel drive in the form of Quattro, meaning you can utilise all the performance, all the time, no matter the weather.

The power is presented to the road via an 8-speed automatic transmission, with paddles behind the steering wheel to engage with when you want to manually change gear yourself, again nodding to motorsport.

Test drive the Audi RS 7

If you are after a coupé-like grand tourer car that offers typical Audi refinement, class, ergonomics and supercar levels of performance, then the Audi RS 7 ticks all the boxes, and more.
