Introducing the New BMW i4
With electric cars now a permanent part of our future mobility, BMW look set to release an exciting number of new state-of-the-art electric models, to complement their BMW i3, which we first saw back in 2013.
First up in the new additions for the electric range is the striking BMW i4 - the first fully-electric Gran Coupé. With signature blue detailing appearing on the bold new-look kidney grille, along the bottom of the sill and on the rear valance, this i4 is unmistakably BMW.
But this is so much more than just some blue details. Read on below to discover the i4 in all of its glory, being a BMW, it comes with lots of impressive details.
Design and Practicality
A true Gran Coupé, the BMW i4 is a practical 4-door with the sloping sleekness of a stylish coupé, yet all the practicality you would expect from a saloon.
This is thanks to clever design on the exterior and interior - as the i4 can seat five occupants in typical BMW refinement and comfort. This is thanks to a long wheelbase with short overhangs to blend practicality and style in a perfect mix.
The striking new-look kidney grilles take on a dramatic new look to give the car a unique presence, but along with the rest of the design elements the i4 blends subtle with striking perfectly.
Technology and Safety
Being part of a selection of new electric models from BMW, the i4 is loaded with impressive technology and cutting-edge safety features.
With over 500bhp available and a distinct focus on comfort the technology, along with blending performance and refinement will ensure this is yet another example of 'The Ultimate Driving Machine'.
From looking at mainstream BMW models, we expect the i4 to feature multiple digital technology features, along with many cutting-edge safety features to keep this stylish Gran Coupé and its occupants safe whilst delivering range-topping performance and refinement.
Range and Performance
Dynamics and performance have always been a key ingredient for any BMW. The all-new BMW i4 is no different and features perfected aerodynamics along with well-balanced weight distribution, for enhanced cornering abilities and handling.
This is not a BMW M Car, but the i4 still produces some serious performance, with 522bhp on hand, the i4 goes from 0 to 62mph in a rapid 4.0 seconds.
The battery and motor have also been finely tuned to deliver effortless pace, which is complemented perfectly by fine-tuning of the suspension components to offer both comfort and agility when needed. Spring rates and damping systems have been ultilised to offer optimum road contact and sharp cornering ability to ensure that the i4 continues the legacy of ultimate driving machines.
With any electric car, the focus will always swing to the car's range and charging process.
BMW confirms that the i4 will be able to go up to 363 miles between charging. Again, no exact details have been released just yet on the processes involved, but we suspect a typical 3-pin method will be available, whilst a rapid charging feature will reduce the overall time.
As soon as more details are confirmed we will of course update this page.
BMW have teased just enough of the i4 to get us seriously excited with where the future of electric BMW models are heading.
The manufacturers reputation for style, performance and technology yet again delivers in the i4, and we have not been given all the information yet. If this is just the start of new electric models from BMW, we cannot wait to see what else is in store.
The future of electric BMW models looks set to be very impressive.
