Joining BMW's SUV line-up in 2023, the iX2 is the electric version of the X2. It is essentially a coupé version of X1/iX1.

The coupé SUV has become more popular, after trailblazers in the BMW range such as the X6 and X4, allowing for those who want something less conventional than the X1, X3 and X5 - which all follow the more familiar SUV body shape.

Add in the fact the iX2 is all electric, so if you like the idea of it, but prefer internal combustion, then there is always the X2. Either way, the iX2 has a lot of things going for it, which include:

  • Slick and modern looks
  • Cutting-edge technology
  • Quick and dynamic
  • Coupé sleekness
  • Typical BMW premium quality

Engines and Driving Experience

Red BMW iX2 Rear Driving

If you were to opt for a regular used BMW X2, there are a number of engines available. However, in the iX2, the fully-electric version you get two electric motors instead, badged 'xDrive30' which gives the iX2 an impressive 313bhp, the same as its iX1 sibling.

This means acceleration feels much faster than the quoted 5.6 seconds from 0 to 62mph, due to the circa 500Nm of torque. Like the iX1, there is also a 'eDrive20' version, which is not as impressive in the acceleration stakes, taking 8.6 seconds to go from 0 to 62mph.

If you want your iX2 to be as dynamic and fun as possible, a used 'xDrive30' will be the one to go for, preferable in M Sport trim to also give a more sporty and complete package.

Practicality and Running Costs

Interestingly, the iX2, despite its coupé SUV shape has a bigger boot that its seemingly more practical iX1 sibling, with 525 litres, bettering the 490 litres in the iX1. This is due to the iX2 being slightly longer than the iX1.

This means the iX2, like the iX1 is more practical in terms of boot space than the Mercedes EQA and Ford Mustang Mach-E which offer 340 and 402 litres respectively.

Running costs will mirror its iX1 sibling too, and will be as attractive, if not more, than the car's internal combustion engined sibling. As ever, we recommend using an official service centre such as any Stratstone BMW retailer, to ensure your used iX2 is kept in good working order.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Black BMW iX2 Interior

As you would expect from a BMW model that came along in 2023, the interior is properly cutting-edge, and full of premium feeling materials.

Following on from other BMW models, there is a large digital infotainment screen, which is complemented by a digital instrument cluster. It gives a widescreen vibe, which helps the interior feel ultra modern. It could be criticised in the fact it could feel 'iPad' like, but unlike some manufacturers, BMW have managed to make the set-up feel slick, as some systems can feel laggy and gimmicky.

Of course, smartphone connectivity is simple, and there are lots of apps available to download and use, to tailor your used BMW iX2 to your exact requirements.

Being a modern BMW, safety technology is of course ultra comprehensive, with multiple driving aids available, some of which what are available are listed below:

  • Reversing camera
  • Adaptive cruise control,
  • Cross-traffic warning
  • Lane-change warning

Why purchase a used BMW iX2 through Stratstone?

If you like the idea of an SUV, but fancy a more unconventional SUV shape, then the iX2 may be worth a look, especially if you fancy going for an electric SUV too.

Interestingly, the BMW iX2's main competitor is the BMW iX1. Not a bad problem for BMW to have, especially when both offer a better overall package than a Mercedes EQA.

Either the BMW iX1 or iX2 are both excellent SUVs in their own right, and if you do not fancy electric, then a used BMW X1 or X2 may well be the solution for you.
